Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I need to replace the bulb for my cruise control readiness light in the gauge cluster (this is a 2000 Carrera convertible). I've done some searching but haven't been able to determine what kind of bulb is needed. Does anyone know?

POST 2Original post

Not sure about the rules but there is a related thread on Renntech including part numbers and diagram. I can't remember - I just replaced several bulbs in my instrument cluster... there are black base, tan base and green base bulbs...have you taken off your cluster yet and can you tell what color the base is? I think it is tan but can't remember. You can order the bulbs from the usual parts suppliers. https://www.renntech.org/topic/1827-dash-bulbs/

Hi, I had gotten busy this week and forgotten I posted this, but I did some more digging today and found that, on the early 996 at least, it appears the cruise control bulb is a tan base, 1.5w, and is accessible without disassembling the back of the cluster. Later 996s, it appears, may require disassembly and/or have some bulbs soldered to the PCB -- I'm definitely glad I have the earlier one. Part numbers I found for the bulbs are:999 631 302 90 : Bulb 1.2W (black base) 999 631 303 90 : Bulb 1.5W (tan base) 999 631 304 90 : Bulb 3W (green base) PelicanParts' price for the tan base bulbs is $10.75 apiece (!) but I found an outfit called Auto Atlanta that sells the same bulb for $1 each, so I bought ten of them. I figure I'll need to do this again at some point and might as well have spares.
