Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Porsche Timing Chain Tensioner 99610518802. Genuine Porsche Timing Chain Tensioner; Cylinders 1-3 | 99610505158 What is the diference between these two parts. Other than about 1300 bucks? Mine is a 2001 996 Both parts fit. My deviation is fine, the actual differs by 6. I have green bits in the filter. Witch one do I need? 1-3CAM is lazy. It takes a while to get up to about 75% of bank2.

99610518802 is for the bank 2 main timing chain. Has little to no effect on timing, It puts pressure on the hinged rail to keep the chain tight. It is part 34 in the diagram. 99610505158 Is the tensioner and actuator for the small chain between the cams on bank 1. It is under the cam cover. There are rebuild kits for these. It is part 7 in the diagram. What are the deviation numbers of both banks?

those seem fine, I wouldnt do anything. have you looked in the sump? if you did did you find anything?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have owned the car for a few months and changed the oil once. I found a few green bits , no metal or plastic, and the CEL is on for bank 1 below limit. Car runs fine but actuator on Bank 1 is slow. I was confused by the parts and part numbers. Looks like I will have to replace the bank 1 actuator at some point. I just dont want to do any damage .

Those are great #'s, wish mine where like that... What cel code are you getting..? Well, with those low dev #'s, actuator pads are probably ok.? But, If cam advance isn't working correctly (sticking/slow to adv or return) its probably something to do with those cam actuator green o-ring bits in your sump. Those bits of green oring denote the cam actuators are in bad shape with busted seals. As far as I can see, either live with it (not sure if any damage can occur from this/maybe..?) or.... 1) change out actuators @ $1500-1800 each not including gobs of labor. Different actuator for each bank even though they look almost identical... 2) Send out actuators to Slakker for a rebuild for $600 iirr..? or get a actuator rebuild kit and do it yourself. Some have had problems doing the rebuild. others not so much... Either above choice will no doubt include many while you're in there $$$$. Some of the more mechanically inclined and younger flexible guys with m96 experience say this can all be done engine in car. Sure thats correct, especially if you have a nice full size lift.
