Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Checked every possible point and ran it without belt just to be sure it wasnt external..
Leading evidence: 'Check every possible point' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check every possible point' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Replaced bearing shells and shes run great ever since.

Suggestion
Like I said...pull the Sump and oil filter and look/inspect for metal debris...

Suggestion
I would never condemn an engine if it ran smooth, has good power, not using oil or smoking,(blow-by) ,and is not self destructing ....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well.99,750 miles and shes done.
Definite rattle from inside engine, no CEL, no oil pressure issues, no coolant issue, no intermix, but clearly done. If I could figure out how to post a video of her rattling I would.Lol
So I need to do a motor and Im a poor. Obviously, I might as well upgrade to a Slakker 4.1.
Anybody finance an engine before? If so, what route did you take? Whod you use?
Thanks for any input
Clearly done ? With good oil pressure and no CEL ?
You need to prove that statement...
Remove the Sump and oil filter.....If the rattle noise is destruction of the engine there will be evidence in the form of metal debris.....
Doesn't sound great, but dont write anything off until you have done the full checks!
I had a Lotus 7 that suddenly made a similar noise (Toyota 20v 4 Cyl), just as i was pulling into my home. Managed to save the engine by pulling sump and finding the big end bearings were about to destroy themselves! Saved the crank just in time. Replaced bearing shells and shes run great ever since.
thats a good sign...
looking more promising every minute..
dropping the Sump is easy and quick......13 screws around the perimeter and it falls off....
OP - Not a great situation to be in. Something’s definitely amiss.Tough to swallow, but you can break this jawbreaker down into some more bearable chunks. Can you provide more fill-in information? You can use a mechanic’s stethoscope to isolate the location of the noise. Get a scan done showing cam deviations. Is your motor a 3- or 5-chain? Things can be done and diagnosed before the engine gets dropped to get a better grasp of what’s happening and what course to take.
Never heard that noise on a 996 before. I would not tear into this engine unless you know for sure the noise is internal. It almost sounds like a hose banging against a body panel or a loose exhaust. The period is faster than any individual piston or valvetrain component.
No metal debris in oil filter or Sump are good signs it is not self destructing ...

Do you have a UOA ??
On some noises a 4ft long 3/8 rubber hose is more useful than a Stethoscope for locating noise ......
