Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'm thinking it might be ok to drive to repair shop.
Leading evidence: 'Repair shop' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair shop' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Is it safe to drive the car to a repair shop or should I have it towed?

My thought, since I never got the engine warning light and that the fact that the engine was still running smoth but just with very limited power.

Or log all signals using a datalogger and put a flag on the datastream the very moment you experience the symptoms.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I turned the car off for 10 min and fired it up again, but no change.
Hi,
I have a 996 c2 (2002). In October, I was taking the car to the winter storage location. Almost there, all of a sudden the car just lost the power when accelerating. No bad sound, no engine warning lights on the dashboard, no bad smoke or nothing. Just weak performance. I turned the car off for 10 min and fired it up again, but no change. I'm about to pick it up in a couple of weeks and need some advise. I have three questions.
1. Any idea of what the problem could be? Or is this what happens when the car enters into "limp mode"?
3. Since it doesn't show any warning lights, is it likely that it will generate a "failure code" if I connect a simple code reader?
2. Is it safe to drive the car to a repair shop or should I have it towed?
Thanks
Oskar
I did the scanning today and got the error code P0026: "Intake valve control solenoid circut range/performance bank 1, vlave lift control final stage etc."

Thats the variocam soleniod. Yes u can drive the car to get repaired. Im pretty sure they r exteral in the 3.6l so getting to it is much easier then the 3.4l
Bad wiring loom or connectors in your Dodge could be one possible reason (of many) based on your description.
When accelerating the whole engine tilts (in opposite direction of crankshaft turning direction) and that movement could be enough to loose electrical contact in a connector with oxidised terminals or when a wire lead is broken at the transition to a connector or terminal.
This is very hard to troubleshoot as revving the engine, out of gear doesn't tilt the engine. Wiggling connectors and wiring is your only chance.
Or log all signals using a datalogger and put a flag on the datastream the very moment you experience the symptoms. But that's probably out of reach for most, even most shops.
To the OP: the fault stored could be a result of above scenario instead of the vario cam actuator being the cause for loss of power. Clear the code and drive again. If you have normal power (delivery through the rev range) again it's unlikely to be the solenoid as once that fails it won't intermittently work. Whereas electrical issues are very often intermittent.
