OK - this is probably the height of stupidity, but I can't suffer the agonies of troubleshooting under the dash in a 30 degree garage for yet another couple of hours!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK - this is probably the height of stupidity, but I can't suffer the agonies of troubleshooting under the dash in a 30 degree garage for yet another couple of hours! Putting in a new brake light switch. When I plug it into the adapter under the dash, but do not install it into it's mount by the pedal, the brake lights are on constantly. If I depress the plunger by hand, the lights go off. This seems counter-intuitive. - Is the "default" position of the plunger depressed when the brake pedal is at rest? And therefore when you depress the pedal the plunger extends and closes the circuit to send voltage to the lights? Am I missing something or was it just too cold in the garage to make sense of this..mm

POST 4Original post

its fine. the switch is a normally closed contact type.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
