Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I have oil weeping from my 996, presumably RMS related. Anyone tried the following? http://www.liqui-moly.com.au/oil-leaks/ Is this a worthwhile spend of cash? Or just a gimmick? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Hey there, that site is Australian! Anyway IMO if the RMS is leaking get it attended to when you can rather than trying any additives, the M96 is a sensitive highly strung engine! Gives you a good opportunity to upgrade the IMS if you haven't already and install the latest revision of the RMS also.

Yep from the land down under. IMS solution/RMS costs about USD4.5k down here so is currently out of the question... Car is dropping approx a drop every other day, is this something to be concerned about? I have the earlier 1998 model with dual row IMSB and last oil change showed no need for concern.

POST 4Original post

Nice, i'm actually in Melbourne! If cost is a factor the IMS retrofit can be a viable solution but being a dual row '98 it's probably still going strong! A drop I don't think is something to be concerned about, personally I hate oil leaks so I'd be booking it in to get fixed but I'd put it on the list of things to fix in time (i.e. <6 months) the RMS is a wear part. Just keep an eye on how much its leaking.

POST 5Original post

if it is not getting much worse, you could wait until you need to replace the clutch. If you have an auto, sooner or later you are going to have to bite the bullet and change it.

Yeah I think getting it all done with clutch is the way to go. Im guessing no one has any real experience with the liquid moly product... Probably pretty hard to prove / disprove its usefulness

POST 7Original post

The description of the product says that it changes the properties of your motor oil over the course of 700+ km of driving, to increase the "seal swell" chemicals in the oil. Based on, oh, literally any oil thread on this site, I'd say that's a bad call. My advice is to keep your engine clean and start a fresh swear jar. I feel like over time you're either going to save up the money for a proper repair or gum up your motor with that sealant stuff and end up costing yourself way more than a fresh RMS. Best of luck down there!
