Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

The next step is run away from "indie shop guy" who obviously is not an experienced Porsche 996 mechanic and apparently does not have the diagnostic tools to provide more insight or rule out possible causes.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

losing oil blowing grey smoke at start up .so took to shop did a diag . scorched oil found in passenger header/exhaust. removed plug on cylinder 4. oil on plug. any suggestions. my indie shop guy was to vague with his answer.

POST 2Original post

The next step is run away from "indie shop guy" who obviously is not an experienced Porsche 996 mechanic and apparently does not have the diagnostic tools to provide more insight or rule out possible causes. Post what city you live in so forum members can suggest a shop with Porsche 996 experience. The only people who should be working on these cars when things get beyond oil changes and hanging parts are true "Porsche heads."

+1 ^ Could be AOS Failing. Could be other things.. Crank case pressure test will help chase down the problem.

Any noise to go along with "blowing smoke and losing oil"?

POST 5Original post

Agree with the other posters. Move it to Porsche Specialist. If it is AOS, do not drive it. PO of my car drove the car with AOS failure and caused hydrolock (too much oil in cylinder) that it locked up and the engine had to be replaced.
