Reported cause
Turns out it was the clutch release arm that showed wear at the point where slave pushes on the release arm.
Leading evidence: 'clutch release arm' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'clutch release arm' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). I replaced the release arm and no more creaking noise.
Replace slave cylinder as well and still had noise

I had this same noise, When it was time to replace clutch I also replaced the slave cylinder as well and still had noise.

Its driving me crazy, partly because im not sure if the indy I took it to did a terrible job and failed to lubricate the release bearing and the clutch arm contact points.

Might be worth having a look/see either by you if you believe you can spot any problem and deal with it, or if not, run the car by a Porsche tech for his opinion.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I actually removed the slave cylinder from the bellhousing to grease the fork detent the end of the slave piston rod sits in, but it made no difference.
Hey guys,
Last night after driving pulled into the garage and noticed my clutch sounds like an old door when I slowly press or release the pedal. Can be heard from the outside of the car so it's not the clutch assistance spring. When I got in this morning it was gone but I haven't driven yet.
I had a new genuine Porsche clutch kit and sachs sprung clutch disk (to match the LWFW) put in around 3,000kms ago or a year and 3 months ago (didn't get to drive much last year
hence the 3,000kms)
Anyway from what I have read it's going to be the release fork lubrication.
My question is: if the Indy I used lubricated everything correctly should it have started to squeak? Surly the grease would prevent this (if it has been done) seeming it has only been 3,000kms and just over a year?
I dont want to go back to this Indy as he damaged my instrument cluster...
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Cheers
Mine did the same squeak with the original clutch, and it started again +/- 3,000km after a new clutch was installed....
I actually removed the slave cylinder from the bellhousing to grease the fork detent the end of the slave piston rod sits in, but it made no difference. A bugger of a job too.
It only happens when its hot - after a normal 50km drive there is no squeak, but after a good run, there it is again.
I don't worry about it anymore.
Its driving me crazy, partly because im not sure if the indy I took it to did a terrible job and failed to lubricate the release bearing and the clutch arm contact points.
To your knowledge did they lubricate everything and the squeak still developed?
It sounds very loud from the back of the car, does a good drive get rid of it?
So strange when its cold its not there, heat it up and there it is!
Just to confirm this is the back of the car and not the footwell pedal spring.
If you have had a garage change the clutch can you not take it back and ask them at least they could put it up in the air and operate the clutch to pin point the source!
Yep, wish it was in the foot well
can hear it from outside of the car, its really loud.
I'd take it back but i've had so much trouble with this indy mechanic
He's useless and I have a feeling he failed to lubricate everything. Stephen Tinker was yours really loud from outside of the car? I can hear it over the radio and my cargraphic exhaust when stopped.
On another note I can make it "tick" if I push the pedal in really slowly but make it a constant movement down there is a distinct metallic sound like metal twisting/stretching
What year is your car? There was a recall by porsche on noise coming from the bell housing area. There is a new updated clutch release lever and you have to update some other components such as the ball pin, a seal and a spring.
Car is an '04 C2, I did read that TSB but didn't think it was applicable. Either way I think it's a drop the transmission job. Anyone experience the squeak and it went away??
My Boxster's clutch -- something in the clutch -- started making noise. Not bad not loud but I could hear it when before I could hear nothing.
To me it sounded like it was coming from the somewhere in the cabin which means it was coming from the clutch pedal linkage.
When I had the car in for something else and mentioned it to the tech and asked him if he believed some clutch pedal linkage lubrication would help. He thought it might and I gave him the go ahead.
I do not know exactly what the tech lubed or with what he lubed it but when I got the car back the noise was gone, the clutch system was quiet again.
BTW, your description of the noise suggests to me the helper spring might be the source of the noise. This might be broken or something else wrong with it to cause the noise. Might be worth having a look/see either by you if you believe you can spot any problem and deal with it, or if not, run the car by a Porsche tech for his opinion.
I had this same noise, When it was time to replace clutch I also replaced the slave cylinder as well and still had noise. Turns out it was the clutch release arm that showed wear at the point where slave pushes on the release arm. I replaced the release arm and no more creaking noise.
Definitely coming from near the bellhousing, just wish the shop where I got the clutch done had advised to replace it.
Guess it means I might have to live with it arghhh
Thats interesting, did you know where/how the release arm was worn for it to create noise? PCM believes its the slave that needs to be lubricated.
So the release arm gets worn? I'm assuming it gets worn at the bottom rather than the top as the top can be lubricated? Does it make a difference how loud the noise is? I'm guessing if it was the lower part of the arm it wouldnt be as loud as the top?
Dan, I'm not exactly sure since I didn't perform the repair but this is from repair ticket...
"Found clutch release arm with wear marks where the slave pushes on the release arm. lube and installed new release arm. no noise at this time."
He gave me the old part but I cant locate it. But the repair worked and 4000 miles later no noises.
I studied up on the clutch last night it appears that the only contact point that could make noise is indeed the point at which the slave pushes on the arm which then in turn pushes on the throw bearing and so on. I'm guessing though that if the arm is worn beyond its service life lubricating it won't stop the squeak. Might be a gamble ill have to take to see if it goes away
I don't believe it will go away on its own, it will get worse. Like you said once the clutch is warm the creaking sound returns. I dealt with it for months myself before I returned to my indy for the release arm replacement.
