Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, I have a chance to buy some cheap 997 seats to put in my 996 but have some questions:
I have a 99 coupe with basic seats. There are no memory program feature, only the seat controls located on the side of the bottom cushion. The 997 seats I am looking at also have the control similar to the 996 seats.
Does this mean the wiring is more simple? Am I correct in thinking that as long as I feed power to the motors in the 997 seats, they will work fine? (no memory or program)
Also, can I remove the seatbelt receptacles from the 996 seats and bolt them on to the 997 seats?
Thanks in advance for any help!
I put 997 sport seats in my 99 996. Your assumption is correct. You just need to provide power to your seat motors for them to work. Be careful not to provide power to the side air bags. I used my 996 seat belt receptacles. Good luck.
Mfletch - would you be so kind as to share a bit more detail on the wiring process? I'm in a similar situation to johnvan8 (although the seats aren't all that cheap) in a 2002 996. I found this - does it echo your experience?

I followed a post here that showed how to install 997 manual sport seats in a 993. It was very straightforward with the manual seats. The only adjustment that needs power is the motor for the seat recline. If the 997 seats that you are installing in your 996 are fully adjustable with memory and/or heat, you will need to seek advice from someone who has performed a similar swap. Good luck.
Nice looking seats Mark. Glad to see you posting again. How's your back? Your 911 looks fantastic! Still love the 3 spoke steering wheel I bought from you years ago.
Hey Steve, glad to see you are still enjoying your 996. I really love the sport seats. If I had the 996 sport seats like you do, I wouldn't have swapped. I'm glad you are still happy with the steering wheel.
How is that beautiful boat of yours? My wife and I just moved to Idaho and bought a place on a river. It is amazing. Do you miss your truck?
Back is the same, thanks for asking. Your car looks great also. Thanks.
Sorry OP. I thought you were in Calif. before Mark, congrats on your move. Nice to be on the river. Still trying to finish my boat's sailing components, I've enclosed pics from yesterday. I don't miss my 1953 Chevy actually.
What do you mean by "these 997 seats?" manual 997 into a memory equipped 996? That can be done. Obviously the memory doesn't work.
Full power 997 into a full power 996? Well, I'm having that done right now by an Indy mechanic in NJ. I will let you know how it goes, what works and what doesn't, in about 2 weeks.
997 full power seats and 996 full power vehicles are NOT using the same ecu's or connectors at all, they are very different seats. Swapping them can be done but it is not easy and requires special knowledge, no plug and play.
Steve, the craftsmanship on your boat is amazing. My email is

I would love to see more pictures of the boat, if you wouldn't mind. My wife and I are going to start our day tomorrow paddling on the river behind our house. We don't miss CA. Thanks.
OP, sorry to derail your post.
Thanks! I'm looking at 997 full 10 way memory power seats with heat going into an '-2 996 also with memory and heat seats. I know the connectors are different and I'm looking to see if 100% of the functionality could be retained.
IIRC Porsche 996 powered seats came in either 8way or 12way variety. You're obviously going to be at a 2 position deficit either way. You can retain all the adjustments as long as you trace out all the wires successfully.
Dunno, I think you are better off with the 997 sport seats. I have the 996 sport seats and I really wish they made the bottom bolsters more beefy like the 997 sports variety. The bottom bolsters on the 996 is the same as the non-sport version unfortunately.
Here are 2005 997 seats successfully installed in a 2002 996. All the physical seat functions work, forward back up down tilt recline... Love these new seats!! Thanks to Polar Porsche in NJ. NO ONE wanted this job, I went to the dealer (nope), I called indy after indy (no luck). Yurii at Polar Porsche was the only one who stepped up without hesitation and said, "I can do it, no problem."
