I know at least from research in the competition threads, if I wasn't going to use JG products then Amsoil would be my next choice.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, flame on... I heard some good stuff about using Motul 8100 x-cess 5w-40 I searching, I found it on Amazon ~150 for 4x 5 liter bottles, so it is priced ~ $30 higher than M1 and about 30% below DT-40 Anyone have any experience or thoughts about this?

POST 2Original post

Buy a liter, send it in for UOA, and go from there. Data doesn't lie, except when it does but then you don't really know it so it's almost as good as the truth. If you are going to post the results on RL you may even be able to crowd source the cost! I know at least from research in the competition threads, if I wasn't going to use JG products then Amsoil would be my next choice.

POST 4Original post

Mobil 1 5W50 or Castrol Edge 5W40 These are the two brands I can get in NZ. Won't older motors need slightly thicker oil?

POST 5Original post

Most of the recent UOAs we've seen on Motul have been showing a lot of high shear breakdown. Reformulation has been suspected.

POST 7Original post

Better than what? Mobil 0W40?? Just about anything is better than M1 0W40. Use Mobil 5W50.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13494649

better at high temp shear

POST 9Original post

It's almost 100% group III petroleum base. Castrol Edge Syntec is a very close zinc and detergent package and it's about half price. I don't have anything to do with Castrol, but since I can't find PAO group IV, I'll prolly use the Castrol. Will never use a Mobil 1 product ever again. Evar.

POST 10Original post

The Motul 5-40 x-cess was recommended when I purchased my 996 . Two other Pcar indies I've visited recommended it as well.
