I figured a long term pro review would put some perspective to some of the doom and gloom bitch fest that can some times run rampant on car forums.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Funny thing, I remember this review and llusted after that car so much that I have it in its original print from my subscription because I couldn't throw that issue away.
Agree.
I figured a long term pro review would put some perspective to some of the doom and gloom bitch fest that can some times run rampant on car forums. It can get to a point where only a negative snarky attitude becomes the norm when the demographic of a car forum addresses those that come here with problems to be solved and vent their frustration. A important service but skews the reality of ownership and the joy of ownership can get lost in the mix.

This forum is definitely skewed with 90% doom and gloom situations since most that come here are asking about pm/fear/repair advice. Not really discussing performance/mod/enjoyment pleasure stuff.
The only thing I didn't like about the first article is that it seems to jump from 40k maintenance/history logs alll the way to 150k. So does that mean the owner didn't have any issues between then? Seems a bit incomplete IMO.
I wondered about that as well. I did a lot of research before I purchased my C4S. I read the following long term 911 review and they still seemed to praise the 03 C4S. Other than tires, I can only assume that was their biggest expense for the full 150k miles. 150k miles with those guys are long because they flog the crap out of the test vehicles. I would too if I don't have to pay for them new or pay for any servicing along the test.
Based on the way they worded it, 150k sounds like the cumulative total of miles they've put into various generations of long term 911s, not this specific car. Their long term test of that 996 C4S specifically was only 40k.
I think you're correct. 40k miles has always been the benchmark mileage wise for Car & Driver long term tests. 150k is the total mileage from prior 911 tests totaled.
