Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Something very odd is happening on my '99 911...hopefully someone can give me some insight on what it may be. While cruising on the highway in 6th gear, the transmission pops out of gear on a fairly consistent basis. The shifter starts vibrating before it happens - sometimes I can "force" it to stay in place, but it's definitely wanting to pop out. I bought the car used, so I don't know if the shifter/cables/etc are stock or have been upgraded. Anyone else have this problem, or know what might be causing it? Thank in advance!

POST 2Original post

Need to inspect from underneath the entire shifter cable/connections.Need to remove undertray to do this. Simple DIY if you have tall jack stands and a long frame jack. Check here for how to do this safely.Jacking up to full height under the sump plate is no recommended. Look carefully at the clips/connectors on the cable that attaches to the levers on the side of the gearbox. There is a way to use additional /new clips if they are worn and prone to popping off.

POST 3Original post

The only threads I found mentioning 6th gear popout were all not good. Call GBox and see if they have any insight. They are the experts with second-gear popout; they might have some insight on the other gears as well.
