Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
So feedback,,,,my .2 had the OE carbon shifter, my current 06/98 build has the Function First ball I put on to replace the factory shifter.

Seems like people typically gravitate towards
Function First
or
BFI
, but I also have my eyes on the
Rennline
shifter. I searched a little but couldnt find peoples feed back on what they liked and what they didnt like.
Sooo, please share
Some nerdy details:
OEM Shiftknob Weight - 85g
FF Weight - 220g(AL), 155g (Delrin)
BFI Weight - 205g
Rennline Weight - ?
Shift ***** are a personal choice / taste thing but I've been beyond happy with Raceseng Circuit Sphere 100. It has a similar shape to the 997 **** but I think looks a bit better. High quality stuff. Sadly, they have discontinued it but you can still find it on line.

This is my set up:
Besides this one, I really like the 917 style ones made by Manuel. Very classy look, especially with the longer metal exposed shaft -

I've been tempted to get the 917 style also, but I think there will be just too much going on inside the car with Carbon Fiber, Alcantara, Metropol Blue and Black leather pieces, in addition to the Graphite surfaces or whatever the '99 interior plastic is called...
I ended up going with this one from
Innovativ Car Tech
really nice weight and feel and you can customize a ton of stuff from the stitching to the finish, etc.
The Rennline aluminum shift **** was the first "mod" I did in mine! Spent 5k miles and ~2yrs with it so far, and it's been alright. Looks great next to some of the other alumi-look bits in the interior, but two nit-picky downsides for me:
- if you park outside, it gets hot as ****. I started keeping a random sock in the car to cover the **** if I leave the car in the sun, and shove it between the seat & center console while driving. Works fine and makes me laugh, but slightly annoying.
- it's a perfect sphere centered over the shaft/lever, not slightly offset like the 997 **** or 'tapered'/angled like many of the OEM designs, and I think I prefer how the 'tapered' or offset ones fit into my palm.
Long-term, I think I'll end up getting a 996 GT3 one instead.
I have one of these in mine that the previous owner installed Im prolly going to sell when I get a Function First in there. Not sure if the Graphite Grey boot is gonna make it a quick sell or a slow sell, but itll be listed for like $500.
I think anyone willing to pay $500 for a $1300 shift **** wouldnt be concerned about the color of the leather. You can remove that from the trim and replace it yourself for $50 any material, color, stitching style they like.
Do you guys have any idea or feedback on the weight of the *****?
I have the boot with the 'aluminum' trim. Leaning towards Function first, but Rennline is down to $85 which sounds a LOT better than a $500 used **** (No offense, I'm sure it will sell fast anyways)
So feedback,,,,my .2 had the OE carbon shifter, my current 06/98 build has the Function First ball I put on to replace the factory shifter. Seems better because it sits slightly lower. Not sure about anything really because Im not a race car driver 😎
It definitely looks better that the factory shifter/boot which is really what matters to me.
