Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I thought I was done with my first ever 996 project. Replaced my WP, thermostat and serpentine belt. Now Im stuck because the alignment bolt for the rear carrier wont line up. Jacked up, jacked down, loosened bottom bolts of both motor mounts with no difference. Car is up on race ramps but Im stuck as to what to do next. Thanks all.

POST 2Original post

Sorry edit, Did you raise it with a jack under the engine?

Glad it was an easy fix.

POST 5Original post

I find myself in a nearly identical situation as igrip after completing the same water pump/thermostat job. I had the engine supported with a jack on a wood block, with the car on jack stands, throughout the removal and installation of the new water pump. When I went to put things back together the alignment bolt holes were off in a similar manner. I tried slightly raising / lowering the jack supporting the engine, but the bracket moved with it (I did not touch the engine mount bolts at any point, only the lower and upper 13/15mm nuts to move the bracket for clearance of the water pump). I am sure I am missing something here, but how did you solve this? Did you use a second jack to move the bracket? Is this a big problem, should the car not be driven until I have that alignment bolt in? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!

POST 6Original post

I remember when I did the water pump I had the same problem and it seemed to take a lot of work to get the engine carrier lined back up. I don't remember exactly what I did, but it was some combination of loosing the motor mounts and jacking the engine. It can be done.
