Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Today I will fitted a new water pump, and I went with the genuine pump with composite fins.

It's only done 12.000 miles since it was changed 3.5 years ago.

I also replaced the thermostat gasket I went with new coolant.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Replaced it along with the thermostat and it fixed the issue.
Hello all
I have been needing to top up the coolant on the C2 ('97 build) during the warmer months, and the low coolant light has activated on more than one occasion. The coolant in the sytem was green. I took it to my local Porsche specialist, they pressure tested the system (fine), saw no obvious leaks, and replaced with the proper red coolant. I also replaced with a new reservoir cap. I have hardly driven the car since - maybe 400km in the middle of winter, and the level seems fine. However, the coolant had been dropping during the hotter months, when the car had been driven hard.
Today I serviced the car and found some coolant residue below the water pump. Is there a bleed valve on the water pump, or is my pump on the way out? Could this be the source of the mystery leak? It was replaced about 25,000 km ago, in May 2022.
Fresh coolant
There is no pressure relief. Some waterpumps have a weep hole and if the bearing goes bad it will drip. There is also a fitting for the aos coolant line that is between the alt and waterpump. Its plastic and it can crack. When it fails it will drip past the wp.
Mine dripped from the clamp to the left of your photo. Turned out be the water pump. Replaced it along with the thermostat and it fixed the issue. Not easy but not overly difficult either. You need good dexterity (small hands help) and preferably a long handled 15mm wrench.
When it leaks there, and you have 40,000+ miles since the last water pump, it is almost always the water pump. While you are at it, do replace the little coolant plastic piece right above it with a metal one. It is going to break one fine day anyway.
Use theR&S part. The Uro part is cheap pot metal and they break very easily. Ask me how I know. If you update to the UAOS you can eliminate that cooling line and the fitting. The new heavy duty Alternator mounting plate LN Engineering sells eliminates your coolant fitting on the mount so you don’t have to plug it off.
Second this. URO part is sintered aluminum. Mine broke on installation before I even knew something was wrong. R&S all the way. I also have their idler pulleys because the plastic replacements appear to have partially melted.
Thanks for the feedback guys! When installing Connecting Tube 996 106 226 52, it's important to pre-attach the hoses and ensure the "hook" is positioned
under
the casting web before tightening the bolt, otherwise the mounting tab can snap at the thinnest point.
G'day guys just wanted to update my thread. Today I will fitted a new water pump, and I went with the genuine pump with composite fins. The pump that I took out was a Uro and had metal fins.
I also replaced the thermostat gasket I went with new coolant. I did it over a pit instead of on the hoist, as I wanted to access the top of theengine a fair bit. It was a very easy job and took me just under two and a half hours.
