Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
It is due to the knock sensor picking up vibrations in the crank case/engine that are different from those when stock engine mounts are used and similar to those when the engine is knocking which in turn triggers the knock control to pull back timing.
Leading evidence: 'knock sensor picking up vibrations in the crank case/engine' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'knock sensor picking up vibrations in the crank case/engine' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace mounts in the future' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
A pair of URO RS mounts, and like you said, the hardware is reusable when it comes time to change mounts in the future.

Suggestion
The RS mounts themselves are cheap to replace when they wear out (I went with the URO mounts).

Suggestion
Id rather be using Porsche OEM, but the difference in cost is too much for me.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Its been a while since I looked at 996 motor mounts. I was kind of shocked by the prices since the last time I looked. What is the best budget option these days? Im struggling to find much information.
Rein engine mounts work for me. I switched to those about a year ago and theyre still holding up fine. Well see how they last in a few more years. Id rather be using Porsche OEM, but the difference in cost is too much for me.
Yeah, just had mine replaced a couple days ago paid a little over $300 each I was shocked as well, had a hard time sourcing them as well many suppliers where out of stock and took 2 weeks to get, did see some listed on both ebay and amazon for $80 but don't know if I would trust those, like they say you get what you pay for
I also went with adjustable Renn mounts. I went through a set of Reins in a month. Exploded on the highway one day dumping fluid all over exhaust haha. I thought I had lost worse. Anyway, the vibrations in the stiffer poly mounts is not worth it if you want comfort. I do not care, so they work for me.
Second on RS mounts. Didnt notice any increase in NVH afterwards. All the hardwares are reusable. The RS mounts themselves are cheap to replace when they wear out (I went with the URO mounts).
The semi-solid mounts lead to ignition timing retard (as found and posted by Jake Raby here on rennlist) but not because of detonation, knock or pinging as those mounts do not cause the above.
It is due to the knock sensor picking up vibrations in the crank case/engine that are different from those when stock engine mounts are used and similar to those when the engine is knocking which in turn triggers the knock control to pull back timing.
The vibrations are different due to the different stiffness and damping characteristics of the ss mounts compared to stock mounts.
I bought Rein mounts in 2018. These replaced the originals. Now in 2025 they are shot. From this small sample it seems the OEM mounts may last longer but at a premium price.
Yeah, the rumor was that REIN made the factory engine mounts. Dont know if its true. But for the price, I will gladly replace them every 5 years.
Jake makes a pretty convincing case on why you want to be careful with this topic.
FWIW, even my indy which is a Porsche raceshop who runs boatloads of M9X engines wouldn't let me put two things on my car over the last 2 decades.
1. LW flywheel
2. Solid and semi solid engine mounts.
