Many people used the "dental floss" method to remove it.

Suggestion
If I can find a good quality 911 number set that isn't priced crazy like the oem set I may put them back on .

not all of the letters are the same width but spaced them pretty much equally (use the width of the "E") by eye and template with a slight arc following the bottom of the air grille.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was just thinking... has anyone ever tried to install PORSCHE lettering on their 996 trunk?
I made two rough Photoshops of this mod. First one with silver Cayenne-style emblem letters, another one with black.
Waddya say?

I also like the silver lettering. A lot, actually. Has anyone done this on their car?
Is the Carrera-text glued (sticker-style)?
What if both letterings were silver, like this?
I think that looks too busy too, but again, that's just my opinion.
The Carrera script is attached with adhesive backing on the letters. Many people used the "dental floss" method to remove it. There is a risk of a ghost image of the script remaining on the paint after it is removed, but I think that happens to dark colored cars more often than light colored cars.
If you like the two badges together, then you should keep them both!
No. Both suck. The mixed font looks stupid. Yes I realize that Porsche themselves do it and I think it looks just as stupid on the new cars that come like that (why I had my P!g debadged from the factory). One or the other. Not both.
I don't see it that way.
Personally, I think it "adds" to the looks.
Just like the old 911's and 928 GTS had the rear reflector with PORSCHE text. I doubt it was there because the car had to be indentified as Porsche.
Personally I think badges take away from the true shape and features of a car sometimes. This is one of those times.
It's really only for identification/marketing/bragging/etc. If you ask any designer of these cars, they would all elect to leave them off.
I normally agree - but the black/black mockup actually doesn't look bad.
80% of all men (i.e. all who are not wearing skinny jeans) and most boys over the age of 10 can identify a 911 from a mile away. The numbers might be lower with the fairer sex, but hey, maybe the chicks will ask you what the car is if you leave the stickers off.
I put these on my car they are metal and good quality .
The 911 numbers were not and have since been taken off but it looks good with just the porsche logo
If I can find a good quality 911 number set that isn't priced crazy like the oem set I may put them back on . The ebay ones I bought were crap and came off in a car wash . But the metal letters are good quality you can't tell them from oem.
I ditched the carrera logo

I also prefer the minimalist approach. Do the "P O R S C H E" letters need to be applied separately? That could prove to be difficult to get it to look factory correct. But after all, it's your call Snow Dog!
I really like your mod Vancouver.
Why not?
People often make these small things for fun... personal enjoyment.
Personally, I think 996 rear is kind of "empty" with those small(ish) rear lights. The lettering fits nicely there, imho. C4S trunk is different... with that rear reflector strip it looks much nicer.
Actually the 991 separate letters are a nod back to the very first 911 in 1965
It looks better in the flesh , imo a lot better than the cheap plastic carrera badge it came with
Black plastic on a dark car
I've never de-badged one of my cars before but I cannot imagine adding MORE badging to it.
All of the badging on the rear of the 991 is one of my biggest criticisms of the car. Why? I say, if you like it then go for it but, it's just not my cup of tea. Do you think writing Porsche on the rear actually improves its appearance?

I'm indifferent. Both look kind of good. By the way, thanks for he pics. My 996 is silver too and I was thinking of doing the same thing! Now I know what it will look like :-)
I think it looks horrible
I'm in Germany several times a year for the past 15 yrs
The most popular option even for 911 owners is "Modellschriftzug entfall" - basically badge delete - and that climbed with the 991 because of all the excessive silly badging
A Porsche marketing manager I sat next to on a flight told me it was put there for the large Chinese market that felt more badging was necessary but turned out the new crop of American buyers liked it too
+1 I've seen that most German cars are a symbol or nothing. Audi - 4 rings, VW - VW symbol, BMW - BMW blue/white circle, Porsche - usually nothing, Mercedes - 3 star.

LOL. I'm Chinese-American and I like it. Just inherited half of a 7-figure property from my long deceased grandmother in Taiwan, so I will definitely be looking at a 991 with a all that badging. Must be genetic.
Me too, but part of me feels it's heresy and the other thinks it recalls the old 911s. It come off different from various angles and I chose to locate where I did due to the arc on the lid and what would look the most vintage OEM " what they would have done" type thing. not all of the letters are the same width but spaced them pretty much equally (use the width of the "E") by eye and template with a slight arc following the bottom of the air grille. Like you say, not for everyone, but I'm the original owner and this, like headlights and taillights falls into my category of "reversible mods." Saved the black "Carrera" script. Not sure if I want to add any more badging, but have the "911 Carrera" emblem in the wings. Right now I'm feeling kinda done. Hope this is helpful.

looks great. I had a hard time getting rid of the ghosting and left mine blank for a few weeks and kind of loved it too. I like it both ways. I do like it better than the black script that was there.
I like the black one also, but it would depend on the color of the body, I think. On Silver, black is good. And maybe it does look a little bit "crowded" having both the Porsche & the Carrera badging together? But then that's pretty much up to the owner and his/her likes.

Years ago, when I had my 57 Cab, and later C coupe, they didn't come with a Porsche script engraved onto every handbrake, gas pedal, floor mat, doodad, or rocker panel telling me that I bought the real thing.....I don't have to be reminded what I drive or have to explain what I drive, but I just believe that sometimes marketing has gone too far. If somebody wants to pay for all of the extra scripts, fine, but to me, I would rather my money be put into something a lot more useful and pass on the savings.
I did to my Macan S and rebadged it. But then looked stark. Went to Porsche and had them put matte black Porsche back on it. And if I remember wasnt cheap lol
I read this thread and thought it it today when I picked up my latest copy of panorama. The cover is a 356 SL Gmund coupe climbing the Stelvio Pass. Note the lettering. Clearly the decision to go ahead and put the lettering on new 911s was looking back, as well as forwards.
My 996.2 originally came with Carrera.
Then I debadged it and had a detailer take care of the ghosting.
You could barely see it if you knew to look for it.
I added 911 to my deck:
Then when I got my Aerokit (Taco) deck I left it debadged after it was painted:
Then when I got my GT3RS wing, I left it debadged after painting as well.
I prefer my wings debadged and the original deck with 911.

I'm not a huge fan of the matte black script on cars with dark paint. The previous owner of my car painted the Targa script silver to make it stand out and I kind of like it over the stock "ghost" badge.
