Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

- Car does stink a bit, but that started as soon as I installed 200 cell cats, about three years ago
Leading evidence: 'Install 200 cell cats, about three years ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuel pump health' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Is there an easy way to check for oil in the intake?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I did this morning notice a slight stutter when starting, so I'm not 100% positive the problem is solved, but there is a big difference already.
Hi everyone!
I have a 2004 C2 with 70,000 miles on it that I've owned since 17,000 miles. Over the past few days I've noticed that it doesn't seem too eager to start - by which I mean the engine seems to start a bit lazily. In the attached video (really move of a sound clip, since the picture is just the parking lot asphalt), you can hear an example of this lazy start. In this case though, the lazy start is followed by a stall, which I haven't experienced before. I was then able to start the car.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with the fuel pump or fuel rail. Hoping that somewhere in the Rennlist commentariat someone has seen/heard this before. Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks!
Try an e-gas recalibration first. Put the key in the last position before crank and leave it there for 60 seconds with your foot off the gas. Then turn to off and wait for 10s and you are done.
Also check if you oil filler cap is on tightly and check if the oil filler tube is cracked.
^ That's what I was thinking as well - if it won't idle when cold, could be a vacuum leak.
If it runs OK once it's warm and revs freely, I think you can cross the fuel system components you listed off the list of suspects.
Guys - this may have worked. I re-set the egas last night before driving home. I definitely made a difference. Engine starts more cleanly, and I may have even noticed a bit better throttle response at lower revs. I would actually encourage anyone to do this re-set.
I did this morning notice a slight stutter when starting, so I'm not 100% positive the problem is solved, but there is a big difference already. I didn't see any damage or holes in the oil filler....
but, in a possibly related issue, I have observed an increase in oil consumption lately. I do wonder if these issues are related. Over about 400 miles, the oil measurement (at the stick, engine cold) went from half full to near the min. The car has had a clean leak-down test recently, there's no smoke and the garage floor is clean. I'm totally vexed by this stuff...
One possible explanation is that the membrane in the air/oil separator has failed. This can allow more atomized oil into the intake to get burned off by the engine.
Try to remove the oil filler cap with the engine idling. If it is essentially impossible to do so, your AOS is suspect.
Well, I'm still having the same issue. I guess it comes and goes.
So the symptoms I'm experiencing are as follows:
- "Lazy" startup. Almost sounds like all the cylinders aren't firing immediately
- Oil consumption higher than I'm used to (no idea if this is related)
A few important notes:
- Car runs well
- Recent leak-down test was good
- At the same time the leak down was performed, tech noticed a plug was a bit fouled. Scoped the cylinder and it was fine. Replaced all plugs.
- Oil cap is easily removed when engine is running
- No smoke when starting or running (occasionally I will see smoke at startup during track days, but not recently)
- Car does stink a bit, but that started as soon as I installed 200 cell cats, about three years ago
- No visible leaks - garage floor is clean and dry
- Coolant tank and oil filler are milk-free
I really enjoy this car, but it's starting to drive me crazy! Is there an easy way to check for oil in the intake? Is there an easy way to check fuel pump health? (When I say "easy" I'm not saying I want a shortcut, I would just like to narrow things down a bit before I take it into a shop)
Thanks!
New symptom! Driving tonight I got a "failure indicator" with an oil can graphic. I've read this may be a sensor issue.
What is going on! Can all thus be related?
