As far as the headlights go, I used the 3m kit on my old s2000.

My advise is seek out a highly recommend body/paint shop that does Porsches and take the car there for an estimate on getting the car fixed and fixed right with the other driver's insurance paying for it all.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
While helping out at the church today, I had the pleasure of having an older gentleman hand me my license plate and tell me not to worry as there was no damage... He was parked in front of me and mistook Reverse for Forward
I walked out 20 minutes later and I wouldn't characterize it as "no damage", but it was very minor...
In looking at the damage, most of it I could just buff out, however there is one "bubble" now that wasn't there.
Can anyone give me a ball park on what a new bumper might cost ? I'll probably go get an estimate if it isn't too much.
Also - any recommendations for a body shop in Northern NJ ?
Thanks,
Ward
It's a polyurethane plastic. A good high end body shop can plastic weld that and buff it up, maybe even paint match for very little $. Probably at most like $800 if they go the whole route and respray the whole bumper. I've had it done and it was undetectable (different car but same premise). Now clean up your headlights!
Hi Joe,
Thanks ! I'll ping some of my friends for a local shop.
Yes - the headlights are KILLING me
I tried a basic kit on the one light and it was better, but not great. I just picked up some plastic polish from Griot's and was planning on using my orbital on them.

You can probably find a used bumper online and replace it yourself. Is it Arctic Silver? If so, then it should be easy to find. You could consider upgrading to a C4S/turbo front bumper too.
That bubble is something behind the bumper pushing forward I'd imagine. So something is bent now. I would go through insurance.
As far as the headlights go, I used the 3m kit on my old s2000. The headlights were WAY worse than yours. Took a couple hours but they were 8.5-9 out of 10 when I was done. The kit is 20-25$. Good luck!
Uh, no you can't buff that out.
The bumper cover shoudl be replaced. The other driver's insurance company will have to pay.
The body shop will probably not want to go to the trouble of finding a used bumper cover. In the few cases I'm familiar with the used parts were in worse condition that the damaged parts already on my cars.
There is likely some damage under the bumper cover to account for the uneven gap between the front trunk like and the bumper cover.
BTW, arctic silver is a hard color to paint match and the body shop will probably want to blend the paint on other adjacent body panels so the new bumper cover doesn't stand out.
My advise is seek out a highly recommend body/paint shop that does Porsches and take the car there for an estimate on getting the car fixed and fixed right with the other driver's insurance paying for it all.
Had similar work done on my rear bumper at the Porsche dealership. Repaired the bumper and repainted a attic silver. It was $800 and my dealer seems to cost twice what I see people generally quote for work.
BTW I also recommend the 3M headlight restore kit with the Trizact pads. The last time I did lights I used 600 grit wet sand (hand) followed by 1500 grit wet sand (hand), then an orbital polisher with a light cutting foam pad. Instead of detailing spray I used this new turtle wax ice polishing compound for wetting the surface for all steps. It came out really good.
Ward,
I've had this kind of thing happen to me. When they say "No worries, there's *NO* damage", you need to respond with, "Seeing how you're handing me my license plate when it's supposed to be mounted to the car, I think it would be best if we both evaluate the situation properly". At that point, it's always good to get a police report and immediately report it to your insurance agency.
The man has insurance and this is why we pay our premiums. No need to be the "don't worry it will buff out nice guy", but rather, say because you backed into my car, we're going to have to get an estimate for repair. Their insurance company should pay for full replacement and painting of the front bumper. Period.
Cheers!
Exactly right.
After having my Porsche cars run into 3 times, all 3 times stopped, and in one case having a brand new Porsche Cayman S totaled as a result, I'm past the point of offering to buff out any damage.
I insist/get the other driver's insurance info, take lots of pics of the damage, vehicle locations, road conditions, and get a pic or two of the other driver, the license plate on the vehicle, and its condition (every where) not just the corner than hit my car.
I've had the other driver offer his opinion there is no damage but I just tell him that's for the Porsche dealer and Porsche certified body/paint shop to determine.
I then turn the damage claim over to the other driver's insurance company.
Letting my insurance company handle this is my last resort. My fear -- and partially based on my experience -- is my insurance company has wording in the fine print that can let it possibly cut corners in fixing my cars even though it knows they are Porsche and of course charges me Porsche sized premiums for the insurance coverage.
I've had claims through both USAA and Progressive where they have tried the LKQ BS. Me and the body shop told them to get stuffed and they paid up for the proper parts. They can only cut corners if you let them.
My insurance company tried refurnished parts also. I argued for a long time and eventually showed them a bulletin put out by PCNA which states that Porsche certified shops can lose their certification if they do not use new genuine parts. Take the car to a new shop if they don't have your back and follow this rule. See below. I believe Macster told me about this.
I took my car to a second shop after the first was willing to use refurbished parts and the second one had my back and made the insurance company pay for new parts.

Oh dear godd - so sorry to see the carnage. Sheesh. Some people have no respect or decency.
So, call Joey TwoFingers to whack the old dude. Joeys' cousin Jimmy Threetoes has a bodyshop that'll take care of the bumper, fuhgeddaboutit - it's combo deal - two for one., today only.

Like everything else on these forums, everyone has opinions on this.
I did a lot of research and at the end of the day, my body guy said putting Chinese aftermarket glass in these cars not only devalues them, but more importantly, can lead to leaks down the road.
I read stories of members who used Safelite, most were not satisfied. Some had good results, but they watched the install and were fortunate enough to have a tech who was very experienced.
I'd wager 4 out of 5 of the Safelite installers won't do a great job on these cars. Hell, they did my glass on a 4Runner and the seal isn't right, it's noisier than it used to be inside at highway speeds.
So I bit the bullet and paid the extra for OEM.
Bummer. I'm in VA so get screwed on glass coverage anyway. I think the 911 is the only one we've every filed a claim for as it is the only one that costs more than our deductible. USAA has never argued with us about it though, just paid their part of the claim.
This is the key more than the glass itself. Other than our antenna being in the windshield, there is nothing special about it and chances are that any other shop is getting their glass from the same place Safelite does.
Installation does matter though. Went through 3 windshields on my wife's old F-150 that cracked in the same manner months after installation before we found that the idiot that did the first replacement decided to bend one of the install guide tabs and lay the glass on top of it rather than install the glass correctly
Not entirely accurate. Safelite gets their glass from China.
OEM Porsche glass comes from one of two factories, (Sekurit is currently supplying them) who have been making Porsche glass for decades.
Sekurit also has many patents around their process and their glass is engineered to the highest standards.
Additionally, Safelite glass meets - not necessarily exceeds - the minimum federal, industry and safety standards.
Also, check out this link and read some of the reviews. They're rated one star for a reason.

Hi group,
First off, thanks for all the replies. I went to a local dealer that has been a big supporter of NNJR PCA and they gave me an estimate of $1200 to fix the bumper and paint (but only the top half). The hourly rate they charged me was $60, which is less than I pay my Indy. I have left a voice mail for the gentleman that hit me, but haven't heard back from him yet.
On the glass - my windshield (which is now 15 years old) is pretty speckled. (It looks almost as bad as my headlights
) Based on the discussion above, it seems that this might be common. Am I right ? As I'm fixing the bumper, I'm tempted to get the windshield swapped out also.
Thanks again for all the support and info,
Ward
A lot of people will tell you to go OEM glass which I think runs around $1200. I had mine done at a highly rated discount local windshield shop for $380 and haven't had any issues.

There is a difference on how easily the glass can chip depending on if you go the cheaper route. If you travel on the highway a lot, or are always driving fast behind cars, I'd pay the extra and get OEM glass.
I have 3 chips/cracks on my wife's car which has an OEM windshield. It's held up great over the past 3 years including freezing winters and pretty much stayed the same. My old car that had a non-oem replacement had a similiar size stone chip spread the first winter halfway across the glass. YMMV.
$60 per hour seems like a fair rate for the work. I looked on my invoice and body labor was 95, paint labor 55 mechanical labor 130. This was a Porsche certified collision shop affiliated with a dealer. Are you replacing or fixing?
It should cost whatever it costs you to track down this old guy and get his insurance info. Leave service 5 minutes early and stand outside the exit door waiting for him to come out if you have to. If someone damages your car it is their responsibility to fix it through their insurance, this is why we have insurance. I remember being parked in a bank lot when a woman slammed her door into my passenger side rear bumper with me in the car (it was a hard hard hit). She clearly scratched the sh** out of the paint. I made her stand in the parking lot for 30 minutes on the phone with her insurance company to file the claim (police wouldn't file a report for a non injury accident at the time). The whole time I was hearing "can't we let this go" "it's just a scratch" and my response was you damaged my property and this is why we have insurance. Took down her plate incase she tried to leave. Glad I did, to get the paint up to Mercedes standards the entire bumper had to be pulled, taken down to bare material, repainted, and blended with other panels. Cost was $2,400. This was on a 2015 S550.
Did I feel bad? Maybe for a second. But the moment I saw the estimate I was glad I did what I did.
I cracked my bumper when I hit a lawn chair at high speed on a parkway. A local body shop recommended by my indy repaired and painted the bumper for $300 (cash). That was 5 years ago and it still looks good. If the damage had been caused by another driver I would have had his insurance replace the bumper. In my case there was nobody to hold accountable, my deductible was $500, and I had just lost my job. Good times.
Why were you driving in a park and did the person in the lawn chair live to see another day? Oh I see from the last sentence that "there was nobody to hold accountable"... Nothing left of him, huh? Such a shame.
J/k
So, I ran into our Youth Pastor who witnessed the accident and texted me the license plate. The gentleman backed up, hit my car, stopped, then backed up the bumper and finally realized he has going the wrong direction - doh ! If he hadn't walked up to the gentleman, he would have just left.
I spoke with the gentleman today. It was the usual denial - I only hit your license plate, it should have been properly secured (it's a standard Porsche plate mount), your car is too low... I pointed out the fact if he hadn't been going in reverse, we wouldn't have this issue.
We are meeting tomorrow so he can see the damage. This should be entertaining...
And, yes, any Christian sympathy I had for this gentleman is completely gone at this point...

Hi Tony,
The estimate was for fixing. It, also, doesn't cover the cost of any damage to the internal bumper components since they didn't pull the bumper cover.
