Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
It states very clearly that after the car is completely warmed up, that means driving it for probably an hour that you let it sit for a few minutes.
Leading evidence: 'hour' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'hour' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check after 24 hours of sitting' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

This mystical writing actually talks about how to check the oil in your car.

Suggestion
I don't bother checking oil level if it's not a reliably flat surface.
Use dipstick is a highly dangerous practice, almost certain

As a warning to newer members who may not recall this post from a few years ago, using the dipstick is a highly dangerous practice, almost certain to result in catastrophic engine failure.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They changed my oil (or is it "errrrr-il") and today, the digital indicator showed a little low.
I pulled into a gas station. The dipstick showed it to the full mark (but not overfilled)
Car was warmed up at this point.
I did the digital readout again, and this time it showed slightly above the bottom range but not even at the middle.
What gives? Who's right? Who shot JR? Did we really land on the moon?
1) Marty shot Jake. But then Marty took his toys home, and climbed back under his rock. All is good in the galaxy again.
2) Yes. We landed on the moon. I was there with Neil. Good times.
The correct level can only be checked this way - 24 hour stone cold engine, check with dipstick. Now, even overnight will do since that is what most of us do, well, those who work and DD. The digital readout is always read at startup and after fueling. Since you drive to the gas station and the oil is dispersed throughout the engine, the reading is always going to be a tad low over what is actually in there. The digital readout is best thought of as yeah...there is oil in there, or no there isn't oil in there. Mine always gives some goofy reading after refueling. I know what is in there. I just check it in the morning with the dipstick to make sure. And, not every day, more like every 2 weeks.
OP, the readout can vary depending on how long the car has been sitting since it was last driven because the oil has not drained back into the sump.
I don't trust the digital gauge unless the car has been cooling off for at least an hour - even though this is not necessarily consistent with the owner's manual:
Oil return time
Before the oil level is measured, the engine oil has to have flowed back into the oil pan.
The time taken for the engine oil to flow back depends on the engine temperature and how
long the engine has been stopped. This waiting time is counted down in the on-board
computer display when the ignition is switched on. The oil level display segments start
to "cycle".
It is best to measure the engine oil level with the engine at operating temperature.
Correct measurements and short waiting times are achieved in this way.
I prefer to leave the car sitting for at least half an hour, even though the manual indicates you only need to wait for the countdown time to expire.
Indeed. When I stay at my friend's house who has around a 5 degree angle, depending on whether I back in or nose first the digital reading will either read one bar or all full.
I always check after 24 hours of sitting.
I can drive the car, wait for the count down and it will show 3 missing bars. park it over night, check in morning, no missing bars.

Hey Cuda! I remember that one...sheesh. Of all the asinine things said ever. Yeah...best practices for your dipstick. Be careful and don't rub it too hard.
Denizens of the forum, there's a secret document that you probably haven't heard about, it's called the Manual that comes with every car. This mystical writing actually talks about how to check the oil in your car. It states very clearly that after the car is completely warmed up, that means driving it for probably an hour that you let it sit for a few minutes. I'm guessing because of course This mystical writing is something that is difficult to interpret but I'm going to say a few minutes is a 5 minutes. So after you let the car sit for 5 minutes use the magical wand in your car. And that will tell you where your oil level should be.
yes true. But what's bewildering until I read the other responses, was the difference the machine gives on the digital readout and the magical wand.
Now I understand this better. Thank you!
