So I'll currently contemplating on either replacing my cats with a top gear 200 cell setup and hopefully get the extra decibels that I'd like.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So my 996 came with a gemballa exhaust, which is apparently super rare these days, as I've found little information on them. It's still in great shape, but I'm really itching for a bit more growl, while also not wanting to drop a 1.5k to 2k on a new exhaust. So I'll currently contemplating on either replacing my cats with a top gear 200 cell setup and hopefully get the extra decibels that I'd like. Or give them Top Gear sport boxes a try, although the reviews for these seem very mixed. My other option is doing the Fister mod on some stock boxes that a friend is gifting to me, which would obviously. My assumption is that i probably won't notice the weight difference between my current set up and going OEM, since it's mainly a daily driver.

POST 2Original post

Is it the complete Gemballa exhaust system (headers, cats, mufflers) or just the mufflers?

POST 3Original post

Below is a link to various setup sound clips. Fister mod probably the cheapest modify option, then Top Gear mufflers for aftermarket. You will 150% not notice weight differences regardless of what you end up doing lol. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...deo-clips.html

POST 4Original post

Why not modify the Gemballa mufflers ? Cut an access panel , modify and weld it up . Or do a Fister style mod to them .

Because I don't want to modify it, as I'll likely resell it. And also have access to a set of OEM mufflers.

Looks like your have a couple of options. 1. OEM mufflers - find a welder to do the Gundo hack or send the mufflers to Fister. Worry about replacing the cats later. 2. Keep the Gemballa mufflers and get a good set of 200 cel cats which will add some sound. Or 3. Gundo hack the Gemballa mufflers and worry about replacing the cats later. Keep in the back of your mind that your oem cats will eventually need to be replaced due to age/use. Maybe not now, buts its coming.

POST 8Original post

If you want some more growl that is both cheap and easy take a look at the 996 muffler bypass pipes on Amazon for $135. I had seen someone mention them as a reasonably priced alternative to the ridiculous $800 Fabspeed pipes and figured it was worth a shot. Probably made in China but they are stainless steel and the welds/exhaust tips look great. I have had them on my car for a couple months now and zero complaints. Initially I had been worried they might be too loud, my 911SC with Supercup exhaust(no cat) is ear splitting, but the cats on the 996 seem to mute the harshness quite a bit. Idling at stop lights you might not even realize they arent stock, but above 3k they scream nicely. For a long road trip I might throw the stock exhaust back on but for my 15 mile daily commute or cruising around they are great. They probably have some drone at certain RPMs but I dont really notice it when Im ripping down along the beach on my way to work. I dont know what the weight savings are but its probably 20-30lbs as you are removing the mufflers and replacing it with a ~16 tubes that come off the cats and go out the rear bumper.
