Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, On my newly acquired 996.1 I tested my AOS via a manometer. The test was showing roughly 5-5.2"H2O which is within the good range. I have no history as to when this unit was exchanged, but it may have been at some point. The car is approaching 60k miles. Is it suggested to change the AOS even if the current one is working (manometer test good and no white smoke out the back)? Some people say do it for preventative maintenance, others say to leave it. Any other tests I can do to determine whether I should change it? Thanks

POST 2Original post

If you are going to replace it, replace it with a UAOS with track drain back. It is better quality and has a larger catch can. If the diaphragm ever fails it is also much easier to replace. I put it on all my NA 996s

POST 3Original post

OP - As far as the AOS, I’m in the camp of don’t replace if it’s working correctly. If and when you need to drop the transmission, then you might replace the AOS with a UAOS. And what 996.1? Got any pics?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am inclined to leave it for now then. As it is a complicated job and there is potential for issues with reassembly perhaps its better to just wait until it starts to show excessive vacuum, white smoke or otherwise. I have an OEM extra AOS that I purchased when I got the car as I had planned to do it but will keep it in the box. Here is a picture of the car. 1999 with some sporty options (sport seats, techequipment **** and hand brake trim, lsd, m030 suspension). Via option code the wheels should be 18th but running 17s for now.
