A solid point regarding this car is that the trans was dropped, the rms was replaced by Porsche but not the IMS.
Leading evidence: 'Replace solid point regarding this car is' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'lot more miles than you're looking' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust condition, mileage, etc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Good question, I've been thinking ~$25k, but my budget is more about what I think the car is worth, willing to adjust for condition, mileage, etc.

Probably a lot more miles than you're looking for, but if you like red and want a deal this might be for you:

A specific model gets a high sale, then a whole bunch more gets listed immediately following, till eventually the market demand (the BaT community, big as it is, is still a relatively small one) dies out, and some remarkable deals come through, with no small thanks to the aggressive BaT pushes the seller to set a low reserve.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After selling my '02 C2 Cab 2 years ago to finance my MBA, I am back in the market for another 911. I am looking for either a 996 C4S (#1 choice) or potentially a base 997.1 C2. I missed a few good ones recently, but have also recently passed on some without solid mechanical history. Looking at the 50-90k mile range with all the basics done (clutch/IMS/RMS), or without (would need to be cheaper as I would be addressing those items together immediately). Mechanical condition is more important than cosmetics. Located in SE (Atlanta), but willing to travel for the right one... I flew out to buy my first 911 in Oklahoma and drive it the 800+ miles home.
Let me know if you know of a good one, are thinking of selling, etc. Thanks!
I found mine on Craigslist. The car was in Virginia and I drove it down to Florida. There are a few craigslist app that would search across multiple regions, this way I was able to search multiple states at the same time. Be careful of scams, they are out there. Good hunting.
I'm pretty close to you, so thought I'd chime in w/ some local avails:
I've been watching this car for a while because it's almost identical to my car and in my back yard -- same color and spec but with 8k less miles. I paid $22k for mine and have since put about $8k in parts since, so I'm still about 5k cheaper. I think this one is a bit over market, but being sold by a dealer i would buy this kinda car from:

Probably a lot more miles than you're looking for, but if you like red and want a deal this might be for you:

This one isn't near us and more miles than your looking for, but i do love the color combo:

You mentioned a 997.1:
This one is for sale locally and looks pretty nice:

A bit further away, but do like this car:

Thanks for the links! I've seen a few of these and will look into the others as well. I'm usually not a fan of buying my cars from dealers because there is almost always a lack of history, maintenance, etc. (and I also just feel more comfortable buying from an individual). I know a lot of people do not agree, but then again a lot of people don't buy 10+ year old BMWs and Porsches. The JP Frazier car has a lot more info than the normal dealer, but I agree, they will need to be flexible on price for me to make a deal with them as I think it's too high.
Totally agree about buying from a dealer as I haven't done it since i was a teenager, lol. The JP Frazier car was the only dealer car listed that i would feel pretty good about checking out (based purely on his inventory). I'm happy to go check it (or the other locals) for ya if you'd like. Heck, I've been thinking about driving out to JP Frazier to just have a look around. Best of luck, the hunt is the best part (I still shop daily even though I bought mine almost a year ago)!

found this one in the Chicago area. A bit higher than your price range but seems well taken care of.
Here is a search on all 2002-2005 identified as C4S on Autotrader, coupe only:
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...&firstRecord=0
35 cars listed, somewhat surprising the see the quantity with asking price in the $30-$35K range, or even above $40K. Seems like this is about a $5K increase on average compared to when I was shopping 1.5 years ago, maybe the word is out, these things are soooooo darn good. Mileage seems to be the number one influence on asking price.
I've been watching this one on BaT, this seller seems to buy up 911's (and other cool cars), do all the necessary items (clutch, IMS, RMS, etc.) and put them on BaT. Their sale history is very extensive...

There are some private party here on Rennlist, sparsely on Craigslist. Autotrader is mostly dealers, but there are some private parties there too. Finding a no-story C4S coupe is not as easy as I originally thought it would be. Lots of dealers are asking just simply way too much for what they have.
The BaT sold for just under 32k. A bit more than I paid for mine (2002) 6 years ago. I have broached the idea of selling ours to my wife, not sure she is on board. Shoot me a PM.
Meanwhile this turbo sold for $36k...

Seems like the turbo might be a better buy compared to a high priced C4S.

This car is now owned my Tyler Hoovie of Hoovies garage youtube channel. The same guy that just blew up his 911 LS swap and Ferrari burnt to the ground. He's known for buying the cheapest cars. Watching some of his videos will show you the results of buying the "cheapest car in the US"
deals like this happen on BaT infrequently but predictably. Happened with the R63 AMG; happened with E30 M3, then the E36 M3, then the E46 M3; and more. Given the flood of 996 c4s and turbos this summer, snatching one off BaT is for sure the way to go...assuming you find a listing you like.
Interesting post. I too am kicking around the idea of a 996 C4s after coming to the conclusion that my ‘88 is too nice to track hard. It is refreshing to see how the prices have stabilized / increased (?) over the past few years.
In my mind (where truth and reality seldom prevail apropos Porsche) I’m thinking a nice, sorted, low mile example in the mid 30’s may loose 5K if drivin 8-10K per year over the next few years. That’s a hell of a buy. What other p-car can you do that with right now? So, I am seriously interested in this thread, and real world purchase prices.
This one is for sale near me:
https://www.udriveautomobiles.co/veh...6e1145a8f35bde
$39.9 is certainly top dollar but, as this thread has discussed, there are not easy to find in this condition. A solid point regarding this car is that the trans was dropped, the rms was replaced by Porsche but not the IMS.
In August, i bought my C4S in the mid 30s with 36k on the clock after spending months searching for a 996C4S or early 997. I too have noticed that nice examples are very hard to find and it seems nearly every C4S with under 50-60k miles goes for 30 or more.
To the OP, keep searching and Im sure something will come up that fits the bill for you!
