Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.
I've had my new used 2002 C4S for 3 days. I've driven it daily, moderately with some hard acceleration. Today I accelerated hard during a highway merge and the battery indicator light lit on the instrument panel. Later in the drive multiple other lights lit, including ABS and PSM off. All but the battery go away when I turn off and restart the car. However every time the car goes above about 1300 rpm they come back, and go off below that. When above 1300 rpm the voltmeter pegs at 16v, otherwise it reads 14v.
The car drives seemingly normal and I have heard no odd sounds. When the other lights come on above 1300 rpm the LCD readouts on he radio and hvac dim significantly. The battery appears to hold charge, but this only developed this afternoon. It has rained off/on the past two days.
Any suggestions about what caused this and why? Anything I can check and maybe try before headed to the shop? I'm guessing it is something with the alternator or voltage regulator based on some other posts I've read, but since I'm new to this car and trying to start off on the right foot I thought I'd ask.
Thanks.
So it was the voltage regulator. Had to replace the battery too. It was a moll, probably questionable to begin with ( during this proxess I tried charging it and checked the fluid levels, and they were very low) and this killed it. Had the Indy shop do a post buy inspection and all clear once the regulator was installed, well almost . Alternator was good. Thanks for the good advice everyone. Now time to fix the high beams which only tun on half the time so it passs state inspection. Hopefully just some dirty contacts.
these 02 c4s's
I have a similar issue when i accelerate hard. battery light flashes quickly at me. I replaced the voltage regulator about 4k km ago so I am thinking it's my alternator now...
let me know about your HL switch also. mine works maybe 1/4 of the time. I was going to buy a new HL switch but they are pricey and I need brakes! Let me know how cleaning it out works...
The headlight issue was indeed just the rotary switch. There were two loose connections there. Contacts were cleaned up and it all works now. Passed inspection. I ended up replacing the bulbs too as they were showing some black residue in the bulbs, probably a result of intermittent connections. At least they were only $18 ea. All this stuff here wasn't bad parts wise, shop labor is killing me. Time to clean out the garage so I have a place to work.
good to hear that. did you take apart the switch to fix it or just cleaned it up with compressed air or something?
I replaced my alternator this weekend and glad to report no more battery light flickering while under full throttle.
