2) better to go to dealer and let them use one of their many keys to remove locking lug bolts then you can replace with non-locking bolts

have a 99 996 which , to my surprise, has some sort of wheel lock stud on it which I now realize is standard. the prob is that the tool is nowhere in the car and PO has no idea either. would like to buy a tool to get these wheels off and 4 std lugs to replace the locks if anyone has spares kicking around to sell.

Assuming you've looked everywhere - center console, door pockets, tool kit in the trunk,then you have some other options: 1) go to dealer and order replacement key - could be expensive 2) better to go to dealer and let them use one of their many keys to remove locking lug bolts then you can replace with non-locking bolts 3) find a 12 point socket (I think 19mm) and force it on the locking bolt then remove and replace with non-locking bolts. Search the forum for these and other solutions - lost lug bolt key is common...but make sure you've exhausted your search in all the likely hiding places.
