Anyway, my CDR23 started flaking out and I had it sent to be repaired twice to no avail.

The cigarette lighter still doesn't work so probably a fuse that I'll get checked out.

Sounds like one or more fuses is out - check the fuses before you start buying hardware.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Welp...I hopped a plane from PA to Atlanta and bought a 996 this weekend.
It's a 2003 C4 Cab in Artic Silver with the fixed spoiler and skirts all around with black interior with a manual transmission and carbon fiber highlights throughout. It was exactly the car I was looking for. I pulled the Carfax and the records were substantial so I felt good there. I got to the dealer and looked at the car. He knew I was coming so parked it in his garage instead of sitting it on his lot.
The PPI obviously went well and the tech basically gave a list of cosmetic things it needed but indicated that the car was in fantastic condition. The list has mostly minor things, but told me that I do need a battery. The radio also does not work (which made for a weird, but still fun 13 hr drive back home). There is also a door rattle in the drivers side. The carbon fiber console trim is cracked in the top and needs to be replaced.
So....here are my questions.
1. The dealer kept telling me that the car has a "Euro Package" because it has the upgraded spoiler and the side, back, and front skirts. Is there such a thing as a Euro Package?
2. The PPI tech told me that I need to simply replace the Bose radio to a new one. I am a little concerned that there may be a deeper electrical issue as the cigarette lighter also does not work. Are the radio and the lighter connected?
3. I found a carbon fiber console trim on eBay for $350. Is there a cheaper place to find this replacement piece?
4. Also, I washed my car today and bumped the tire valve on the drivers side rear. I heard a loud hissing noise. It turns out that the valve must've been cracked or something because it split and now I have to get the valve stem replaced and a flat tire repaired. Can I get a standard valve stem or do I need Porsche's rubber version for some reason?
Pics coming but I am too tired from driving so I'll post tomorrow or when my tire gets fixed.
Thanks in advance.
Congratulations and welcome. I'm guessing Aero package, which is more commonly referred to as the Aero kit. Be sure to check under the front deck lid for the option sticker. This is generally right under the Porsche crest area. It's a big white sticker with black text like this:
You can decode them here:

Congrats on the purchase! Hopefully, it's just a fuse for the radio/lighter. If you have the premium Bose MOST system, it's not a simple deck swap. The MOST system uses fiber optics between the deck and amp and you would have to swap both out. Ask me how I know.
When I bought mine it also needed a battery and the radio was dead. May be related but the fuse was blown possibly from jump starting a few times. Bigger issue was finding the code once it was working again. Sometimes it's better driving with the radio off. 13 hours? Maybe not so much. Good luck with it!
Sounds like one or more fuses is out - check the fuses before you start buying hardware.
When you pull the fuse box cover off, there should be a paper fuse diagram folded up on the back side of the door.
If you need the radio code, check the owner's manual and/or the sticker under the hood - owners have been known to be smart enough to write them down. I found my radio codes written on the back inside cover of the manual...
Congrats, you're in the club. Silver/black with CF is not my liking, but if it's for you, then well done.

1. Most likely 'Aero pgk'. Yes, there is a specific package for those body mods incl wing, side skirts and front bumper, as well as maybe the spats on the rear bumper.
2. No different circuits. But, could be a deeper problem at the fuse/relay area.
3. Cheap CF is --- cheap CF. Which is actually not CF in the true sense, but hey, it's for cosmetics so whatever floats your boat.
4. Standard Schrader type valve. If one is rotted, the others are similar. Check them all for cracks in the side of the valve. Easy fix, but tire needs to be loose from the wheel to replace.
Thanks for the responses. Pics are below. They aren't great, but hey I was in a hurry during my trip. The last one was taken today as it was being carted off to the shop to fix the valve stem.
Here's what I got...
- I guess it has the aero package. The dealer had an accent so maybe that's what he was really saying. Doesn't matter. I love it.
- I do have the BOSE MOST system so thank goodness I don't need the code because I doubt that it is written anywhere and I don't have the manual. It also sounds like I could have a couple of possible potential issues (fuse, relay, or TBD). If I have to replace the deck and amp what are typical replacement costs?
- I'll replace the CF deck surround with the standard black one. I looked up the replacement for it and the leeches want $2500 for that one part! The black one is $77...
- I forgot to ask the tech if he could tell me about clutch wear. I want to get an idea about how much it has been worn so I can replace that and the IMSB at the same time. Can shops tell how much the clutch is worn thru a PPI or no?
- Lastly, my car didn't come with wheel locks and so therefore the shop can't take the wheel off to fix the valve stem. I plan on going o the dealer tomorrow in order to buy a set so I can actually drive my car again. Is this as simple as buying a set of wheel locks from the dealer and handing them over to the shop or are there other options like Autozone? I don't know the size of the lug nuts or anything.
Hopefully, it's just a fuse. My system was dead when I originally test drove my car.
Anyway, my CDR23 started flaking out and I had it sent to be repaired twice to no avail. I contacted Rod at Custom Audio Innovations and bought their custom amp/deck kit for around $1300. It was a nice upgrade, but I wanted more so I went all out and got their Focal speaker kit and dual subs. The system is AMAZING! Anyway, give them a call, if you have to go down that road.
Crossing my fingers for you that it's a simple (inexpensive) fix like a fuse.
Great looking car and welcome to the family!
Welcome aboard the P-car train! As far as wheel locks go, your dealer should have a large assortment of locks that Porsche uses - he'll match up the correct lock and order one for you if it's not in stock. Great looking car!
Congratulations and welcome!
It's not really a club. We're an anarchosyndicalist commune. We take
it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. But all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting. By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more--
Thanks again, P car peeps...
Radio issue solved....with a brand new battery.
The cigarette lighter still doesn't work so probably a fuse that I'll get checked out. I need that for my navigation system upgrade (aka cell phone charger).
Since I'm new to Porsche I don't know what to expect in terms of engine sounds. I had a real rough idle when I first got the car last week which the new battery has improved somewhat. The car still sounds like its laboring a bit when I crank it though and sounds like a truck engine after it kicks over for a moment or two. Is this start up/truck engine sound normal or does it sound like a starter might be needed?
I'll change out the IMS in the next few months, but so far the car has performed well with the 900 miles I put on it so far. Speaking of which I haven't done research at this point, but hear that Custom Audio Innovations has stereo upgrades available. I just want to add Sirius to the car. What's the best way to do that? Change out the Bose deck and amp or is something a little less costly available to me?
My starter bendix drags once in a while and gives kind of a grrzzzzzzllkkk as it disengages. I've heard it's fairly common, and I'm not going to mess with it until it gets worse. The laboring while cranking might be the infamous starter Y cable. Take note if it gets worse as the engine warms up. If so, likely the Y cable from alt to starter. Several threads on replacement. I know nothing about modern stereo options, but guess you could go pretty wild spending money there.
If you have unlimited data on your phone, you can get a Tranzit Blu HF kit and use Bluetooth to stream Sirius. That is a very inexpensive way to go. I still recommend reaching out to the guys at C-A-I for more options.
