I have used the 0806 on the track for "race videos" and it is quite good...well better than my driving anyways.

I was involved in hit and run not once but twice here in Los angeles areas.

I'm looking into purchasing a car dash cam. Something compact and has good video quality and useful functions in the $200 range. Not a big fan for one with suction cup. Does anyone have any recommendation? I appreciate your input.

I've been looking into it after my recent hit&run and every account I've read has nothing but good things to say about it, especially the 2ch version (about twice your budget).
One thing I really like is that it looks like with a few extra bits you can move it between cars if you don't want to but one for each car you have.
Still not sure I like the idea of contributing to the ever present filming, but if I break down that will be the one.
I believe in filming since that the evidence that you may give the authority when needed, and it's a personal choice. I was involved in hit and run not once but twice here in Los angeles areas.
and true about blackvue, I like the idea of moving it from one car to the other, or remove the camera from car when not in use.
Suggest you visit a forum called Dash Cam Talk.
Check out the A119 .no ,not the 118.It is attached positively but remove-ably to a stick on bracket on the windshield behind the rear view mirror.You need a Capacitor powered model, not battery.
You need a combo/dual with a REAR camera also.Less than $100. Find the install videos on Youtube.
If you are rear-ended, this will be money very well spent ! Beware having GPS it will betray your speed !
I've been using a Mini 0806 for about 18 months. It is very discrete, and I have it hard wired up to the switched power lead in the sunroof. It doesn't have a rear-facing camera, but I don't see this as a real disadvantage (and I work in the Insurance industry). I have forward facing cameras permanently mounted and hard wired in all my cars.
If you are rear ended, most jurisdictions will see this as the fault of the following car in 99% of situations. The real value is for more contentious situations like red light/stop sign runners, highway sideswipes, etc.
The 0806 has a GPS module that it is usually sold with. The videos themselves don't have the GPS data embedded; the GPS data is in a separate file that gets overlaid with the supplied software. My other dashcam is similar (Itronics ITB-100HD).
