Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone else found this to be true? I continually find that Pickups express ill will against my 996 Cab. It seems that they truly detest my little blue car.
I have been accosted in a parking lot for parking away from the majority of cars. The PU driver screamed at me, you think your car is too good or something. (and of course someone will be parked next to me when I get back to my car.)
They have tried to cut me off and been successful at times.
These PU drivers purposely not allow me to pass by staying in the left lane and matching the speed of the person in the right lane on the highway at 54 mph,
Tailgating is another annoying habit I have experienced. High beams during the day and on my bumper. Although this one is usually easily rectified.
I have been passed on a residential road while I was doing 29 mph in a 25.
Now mind you, that I do not have a Frogger style of driving on the highway. I drive speed limits or very close to them in residential areas. Stop completely at all stop signs. Generally follow the rules of the road. I am guilty of driving back rural roads spiritedly, speeding on interstates and unnecessary acceleration to put a smile on my face and not on my wife's face.
Am I just lucky and found a unique set of PU's or have other experienced this phenomena?
Yes I feel your pain. Where I live sin so cal there are freeway 4 wheelers who, by any means necessary need to beat me to the next stop light and tailgate just so they can make me move out of their way to satisfy some kind of power trip. I dont understand the logic really. I just let them go in ahead and enjoy my drive. I also see a very childish Chevy/Ford/dodge contest often also.
Around here, 50% chance that someone camped in the left lane is driving a pickup truck. I don't think that it is just you they are angry at. Anyone driving a pickup that isn't filled with dirt/tools/hay is likely deeply angry at their life choices.
On my way towards Niagara Falls one day I had a Ford Powerstroke diesel literally trying to get into any position to hit my car with his black smoke. He would speed up, slow down, change lanes at any cost to do this. The kid looked 16 and of course appeared to be wearing a monster hat upon his 120lb body. He is lucky I didn't see him stop anywhere because I am pretty sure I could have broken him in half. I hope he knows that truck isn't hiding his small manhood.
If someone is being a douche, I'll pull into the right-most lane and let them go about their business. They can run their own race.
I was going along this AM, in the second lane from the right, when a CHP cruiser came past with about 10 MPH over my speed. He went to the left, and pulled over the guy in the carpool lane a hundred yards ahead of me.
In California, the CHP gets most of their operating revenue from vehicle registrations, so they are merciless on drivers with expired tags. I suppose that was what prompted the stop.
I've had two trucks try to "roll coal" on me while driving with the top down ("try" being the operative word). There's plenty of truck owners here in VT, and most are respectful, but when I see one with a lift kit, giant pipes, and massive tires coming up in my rear view, I tend to speed up and/or get out of their way...
aaawww you poor dears.....it is sad that many mortals just do not know you are driving [probably in the left lane] a car made by and for the gods. Why not pull those heathens over and give them a good going over.....get back to us on that
Aside from the typical mentally debilitated drivers that ride my *** regardless of what I'm driving, can't say there's ever been an actual bad encounter in the bright red car.
Then again, I may be getting flipped off on a daily basis, but when you're going that fast it's hard to see a skinny sausage finger from the rear view mirror.
Clearly you have never encountered 12 lifted brodozers in a Timmie's parking lot, eh? They are a rowdy bunch. Especially the trucks here in Canada with their confederate flags flying high.
PU's sure. My biggest problem are the jacked up ones with monster truck tires taller than my entire car. They have difficulty seeing me in their outside rear views and tend to want the same space I am already occupying. There are d**ks driving all types of vehicles these days. Heck I had a dude in a Caddie with farting can mufflers want to race the other day. I launched then immediately jumped out of throttle to watch him burn copious amounts of gas speeding away. Pulled up next to him at next stop light, he did not want "go" again. Some need to exhibit their alleged power through their vehicles. I just let them go. With age comes some knowledge.
I have experienced this in just about every corner of the country I've been in. When I lived in SoCal if I went anywhere inland some shoe sized IQ goobers would roll coal, or swerve to the shoulder to kick up dirt and rocks, etc. In the backwoods of North Carolina the poor inbred basterds seemed down right hostile. Tailgating and then passing only to slam on their brakes. I don't get it. But I'm sure I'd be unhappy with my life if I was the product of meth fueled inbreeding and was just trying to impress my sister/wife with my manly skills of picking on those gay little Europeeeean sporty cars. Occassionally I'll experience some of that hostility here in the dairy land. But by and large people out in the country here are fairly friendly and I've gotten my fair share of thumbs ups from camo clad pickup drivers. But also for each one of those I've also gotten weird looks and tailgating as well. Some people are just A** holes and pr$cks. Others probably just dumb kids. Whatever the case is, at the end of the day I am privileged to experience the great joy of driving a rear engined German sports car, and no sister f$*king, meth smoking, tobacco chewing red neck in a truck with a confederate flag can change that. Unless of course the smash into me. At that point I will weep.
Not specifically to my Porsche, but a$$holes will be a$$holes. I try my best to ignore a$$holes in all walks of life. They're just not worth my time or attention. Of course there are always exceptions, but for the most part I try to "steer clear" and give them some "benefit of doubt" (who knows what sort of nightmare their life might be at the moment...stress causes people to do stupid $hit).
Man, You're so wrong for making such a statement!
What in the tar nation were you thinking, dude???!!!
Don't you know that hillybilly rednecks don't "f*ck" their sisters? That's just sick man!
Actually, they go for the cousins!
They learned from the movie
Deliverance
!
bwahahahahaha!!!!
banjo music anyone?
The worse is the Honda Civic boyz with the 45$ exhaust, (I call them the Bolt on Boyz) trying to egg me on at every light where I live, it truly is a daily event - After many of years dealing with it, I have a trick I do daily, I would Rev up the 996 (Fabspeed Exhaust) and have them thinking I am going for it, when light turn green, I release 1st slowly.....then watch them race alone and laugh, never gets old... As for other drivers\Trucks\etc people generally suck...
They trade sisters and hoard cousins. Uncle Jim Jack hit me in the head on the trailer porch with a Natty Light the other weekend. Sometimes wish he'd stop beating memaw, but if I tell, then I won't be allowed to screw or see Dorothy anymore, and we've been cousin neighbors ever since we've been born.
One of the last memories I have from living in Pittsburgh - regrettably, I was born there - is of my father ripping the mirror off of a pickup and using it to try to bash his way into the cab to get at the three guys cowering inside. This was the late 70's, at the height of the old man's temper.
I haven't experienced the douchnozzlery described in this thread, but I have no doubt it's alive and well.
Rage is hereditary in my family, but I have learned to rein it in after witnessing the $100K fallout after dear ol' Dad picked up and tossed a guy at the beach back in the 80's.
I've seen it with the lifted brodozers with 24" rims and low profile tires (on a 4x4???), but it seem the major duschnozzles are in the new chargers and mustangs
This is a tough one. It starts with confusion, since I don't understand the attraction to pickups. Why have a giant vehicle when there is usually only one person in there. They are a pain: left lane hogging, can't see around them. The two behaviors that annoy me the most are, 1. parking the "double king cab dually long bed thingy" in the regular parking spots, and 2. stuff flying out of the pickup bed while driving along. I am sure pickup ownership is simply a macho-man thing; these guys feel cool and macho and manly because they own a pickup.
Now having said that, I also used to be disgusted at Ricers until someone educated me. In fact, they are just car guys like us, with slightly different interests and direction. I try to view the modified pickup guys the same way. Simply car guys enjoying their ride, modifying it, but like Ricers they go in a direction to pickups that isn't my choice. Viewing things that way keeps my blood pressure down.
F150s are the worst offenders down this way. The sight of a P-car seems to ignite pure rage. I let them roll on by.
But FWIW, Lexus drivers are pure evil, cackling as they cut you off in traffic or screeching into a parking space you had planned to use. My sister drives one - she has a custom roof rack to hold her broom. I enjoy asking her, "How's the Toyota?"
911Synchro : Best answer, easiest way to diffuse the Monster Trucks and Rice Grinder drivers, is to say "Nice Ride" at the light or when you get the chance, Everyone has their passion.
It's usually followed by Thanks, my Girlfriend likes that.
Even in my Truck, I get guys that want to rollover any and everything they can.
Life's to short, enjoy it.
Now, whut CB Channel you on ?
Here in Colorado, the left lane offenders are almost always Toyota Prius drivers. We actually have a left lane law here, but most people don't know or care about it. I haven't seen too much hatred from pickup truck drivers here, or really anybody else. I occasionally get a challenge from a Subaru WRX with a fart can muffler, but that's about it.
When I'm not driving my Porsche, my daily driver is a GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab pickup. I love the thing. It's super comfortable, I can haul my dog in it without worrying about muddy paw prints or smudged windows, and I can haul large items with ease. It's very nice to own a truck. That being said, I don't ride in the left lane, I don't have any modifications on the vehicle, and I don't fly a Confederate flag.
Here's a shot that my wife took while we were driving North on I-25 (75 mph speed limit). Not one, but two Priuses riding the left lane!
Interesting, I own and drive a pickup truck mostly as my DD and don't see that behavior as being the norm. But then again you drive a cab so who knows...
I owned a pickup before. I don't recall any reason for hating cab drivers, I have one now. Maybe they're just jealous?
I will admit I drive slower in the 996 in many parts of town because of rough roads or I'm trying to keep revs up. I used to wonder why Porsche drivers drove so slowly sometimes, now I know!
Why did I have one? 4x4 for snowboarding and motorcycle trackdays the rest of the year. It was nice when I picked up mountain biking and woodworking.
Yep, this is what we have in So Fla too, ridiculous. These guys jack these things up the size of monster trucks (not joking) and then drive in the most a$$hat manor, generally riding your *** to prove how tough they are. That's cool if that is your thing and your a nice guy, but I don't think I've ever seen a non-douchebag driving one and man I can't stand them. It was so bad my wife no longer wanted to drive her small BMW convertible so I sold it and now she drives a Cayenne. What's funny is it is really popular around here to have these "Salt Life" decals on your car
But all these trucks have "Assault Life" or some variation again to show how "tough" they are. I'd like to get them a decal that says "Dick Life".
I don't have a 996. but have a 928. reading about the P/U with the bright lights made me remember something. The 928 has the rear sun visors for the back seats, a car was high beaming me one night in the right lane and I just reached behind me and folded down the rear sun visor. Win for the 928
Well my own Ram diesel hates my P-car since I don't drive it much, the GF needed it last week to get some flowers, she got in it and decided to back up and punched a hole with the tow ball into the Porsche.
I knew it was going to come down to me driving a Cab.
i have the boy ricers trying to race me, family sedans that are suddenly increasing their speed by 20-30 mph to keep up. Even Soccer Mum SUVs seem to want to run. All of them I understand, who doesn't want to keep up with the p-car. Although I do not usually oblige them, they do not bother me at all.
It is just the PU's that go out of there way to try and muss with me.
I guess just another 1st world problem.
I'll go against the grain and say that I don't see this problem here in Chicago. I don't think it works to generalize with Porsche's and pickup trucks. There's a difference between a work truck and a lifted Raptor, just like there's a difference between a yellow 996 with a wing versus my plain-jack black 996. Those difference, combined with locale, will produce different results.
For some reason, I get a lot of respect in my black 996 cab in Chicago. People rarely try to race me or cut me off.
The reason why truck shine shine thier lights directly into your mirrors is because they have no choice in the matter.
And I wonder what kind of responses I would receive if I posted this on the Hunting/Gun forum that I visit? I'll bet their POV overall would be radically different than what has been shared here. Hmmmm......
FWIW you can fit a 30-06 and Barnett crossbow on top of the rear seats folded down. Also, still plenty of room for a pistol case, 1,000 round ammo box, beef jerky, and a full winter ghillie suit.
My bad, trying to explain the intricacies of hillbilly redneck mating customs to me is like trying to explain quantum theory to a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
I am crapping you negative, I read this thread earlier, and I just returned from a drive.
During said drive I was waiting at a light and a behemoth Ram truck pulled up about a foot behind my bumper.
I turned around to see who was driving and saw just the top of someone's head. They couldn't really even see over the dashboard.
Sure enough, to my horror, this truck starts inching forward. I yell "Hey!" and it taps me.
I pull into a parking lot, not knowing if he/she was going to follow (but had already memorized the plate just in case.)
This 50 year old woman who stood about 4' 10" gets out. "Are you ok?" she says. Well, sure, you hit me going 2 mph.
Is my car ok is more what I was worried about. Luckily there was no damage. Those ugly little bumperettes did their job today.
As a Cyclist that rides over 5,000 miles each summer I can attest that Pickup drivers are the most likely to intimidate. I have been run off the road and smoked. Now I ride with a video camera on my bicycle.
Had a good laugh recently when a cycling friend was smacked on the *** by two yahoos in a pick up truck. Why did I laugh? A state trooper was the cyclist. Guess who had the last laugh? Yep. Both driver and passenger have been arrested and face charges.
jacked up bro trucks and jeeps are everywhere in Oklahoma. They're mostly nice though. Only thing that bothers me is the LED lights that shine directly in my eyes because they didn't bother to adjust their lights when they lifted the truck 12"
I see it all the time. Honestly, though, I see the aggressive pickup truck drivers treat pretty much everybody on the road near them the same way. They just are aggressive drivers. Heck, I see them pull up on and tailgate OTHER pickups. I strongly suspect that the cab height of their trucks gives them an overall sense of dominance, and they exercise that perceived dominance.
As for other drivers trying to race me, cut me off, get in front of me, etc., I never respond (and drivers in all types of cars, minivans, and trucks do this). You're damned if you do and damned if you don't, really. If you do respond, and decide to exercise your car's ability, well, you're just an a$$ in a Porsche - a show off. If you don't respond, they think think "Ha! I just showed up that Porsh and it's driver". Whatever. Go ahead and show me how awesome your Hyundai, Honda, Lexus, Infiniti, generic minivan, etc. is. I'm not engaging.
Funny thing is, oftentimes I'll pull up to a stop light next to a nice new Corvette, and both of us will just putter off the line trying to not antagonize the other driver. Wisdom that comes with age and experience. Let the young guys in their muscle cars get the tickets like I did when I was young.
It's the 10+ year old minivans that I find to be the worst drivers, most aggressive and outright hostile. I suppose, I'd probably hate life if I had to spend all my time in those too.
I would like to chime in I bought a 996 in LOs Angeles and drove it 2300 miles home to Minneapolis. I couldn't believe the amount of cars and mostly PU seemed they had to beat me to the next light , the next exit ramp etc. funny I would let them fly by me with a "first down" signal only to find them at the next gas station getting gas about 5 minutes ahead of me.
Interesting though , it never happens too much when I'm in my 955TT ,and the odd one that tries never gets passed my 3rd gear by then I'm doing 80 and have quite a bit more bars lit up on my turbo instrument gauge.
Not to brag but that twin turbo just turns me on!
I live in northern CA. Around here the biggest speeders are guys in PUs.
The CHP just lets them go (you NEVER see one pulled over). Want to drive to Lake Tahoe with the Cruise Control set at 100mph? Well DONT try it in your 996! Get yourself a PU.
That's the part that itks me (and is similar to my observations further south): it's as if LE was too chicken**** to actually deal with the bully-ish behavior of pick up trucks and their drivers. It's not like they move the most mass, thus being quite a bit more dangerous to others.
But yeah, PU with a Maga sticker = LE's best new friend.
I think it's pretty much two things:
1. I'm going to show that rich guy in the Porsh my truck is fast too
2. I'm king of the road and anything smaller than me needs to get out of my way
I had a guy in a pick up block me from passing for twenty minutes or so on my first road trip in my 996. I look at it this way: I'll was pissed off for an hour, he will probably be an ******* his entire life...
Although I dont have a 996 i think this applies to 911s. Not pick up trucks but for me its first bicycle riders, then cars, and finally cops, i get surprise incidents with one of these every week. Just a flare of emotions and gestures or shouting, no matter what. For cops, they pull you over for anything, already happened two times this summer. One of the problems of having a P or any fancy car in my view. Jealous types, got used to it. Not in the US, but Europe, so a lot of things that arent matching with your post but thought its relevant anyway.
I live in Florida and drive a lot about 30,000 miles a year for the last 10 years in my daily Honda Accord.
Ive noticed the pick up truck phenomenon over the years and have contemplated it many times.
The conclusion Ive come to, before this thread, is that we dont actually realize how many women drive pick up trucks.
So you can lump in sexist along with all of the other bigotry that weve thrown around about rednecks but I actually think it is a mostly female driver thing going on here 🤷🏼♂️😂

I have noticed the uptick in Big Pick-up Trucks here in Bama in the last 10 years...
Jacked up $80K 4 door dually heavy duty diesel Turbo PU's will be the high speed vehicles on any Interstate ...
But they don't mess with me and I don't mess with them, just mutual respect I think.... The Ricer Bouy's are the ones who will get besides me and Rev the engine....lol......I just laugh and continue to enjoy myself.....(30 years ago I had a high powered little light car daily driver that would have dusted any of them ......
...)
