Can anyone recommend a suspension set up that will give me 3-4" of lift?

I am looking to change the Suspension for something Rally worth that will raise it about 3-4"inches.

I'm not sure they had really sold a set for the 4S before.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Everyone!
So i kinda fell in love with the Safari RS and i want to do something similar to my 2002 996 C4S.
I am looking to change the Suspension for something Rally worth that will raise it about 3-4"inches. Then outfit it with Pirelli rally K tires and Braid Wheels as well as some engine mods.
Can anyone recommend a suspension set up that will give me 3-4" of lift? seems like everything out there is custom made?
Also, does anyone have any experience with Spaccers for lifting it 2"?

Thanks For your Input!

I don't have any suggestions for you, but am also interested in taking the safari route with my 996 C4S (but maybe less extreme). I'm coming from a Subaru WRX, and miss some of the extra ground clearance. Would love to rally or ice race the car (might just do it anyway).
From the extent of my internet searching, the most relevant things I could find (not super helpful) were
this thread from December
and a
Reddit post from about a month ago
. Both pretty much suggest you need custom made parts.
I'd plan on basically completely custom suspension (shocks, springs, every control arm etc) to make it functional. Think something along the lines of what is involved with a big lift in a pick up. Definitely let us know how it goes if you do go this route!! Love the idea!
Front and rear subframes can be lowered. Need just longer bolts and spacers, plus extension to steering shaft.. Engine and transmission must be lowered accordingly, or use longer driveshafts. Or spacers between flanges and shafts.
EDIT: Lower subrfames 2", use GT3's LCAs (with 997s longer inner parts) with max extension F&R, use adjustable F&R diagonal rods and longer track rods F&R. Get (4") longer shocks. Get longer driveshafts or spacers for OEMs. This way you may reach proper alignment with 4" total lift. Airbagging may be something to consider.

I Will Definitely post pictures and let you guys know of the progress!
Im trying to gather as much info as i can now to make the best educated decisions.
This is the car that inspired me, the Safari RS 2.0 By Kelly Moss and i will probably do something similar. I definitely want those wheels and tires and will most likely add a custom low profile roof basket!
Cheers and thanks for your input!

Oh I can dig it. 996 is already a quite reliable do-anything car for roads, can only imagine a lifted one that could scream over any terrain. For example, cool thing in this photo is the angled exterior corners of the front bumper. The car will just bounce off of obstacles.
Indeed, as noted on this 997 WRC build:
http://offroadtheplanet.com/home/wrc...-997-4027.html
WRC wheels are all 15"x7" for gravel, 18"x8" for asphalt.
I really wanted to do this to my car too as I live on a dirt road and there are dirt roads everywhere around my area. However, my car is a cab and I just don't think it would look right, even with the hard top on. It has to be a coupe to get the correct look. Plus I have Brembos and only 19" wheel will fit. I'm going to do up my Audi Quatro instead and leave the 996 for paved roads (other than driving in and out of my own road).
Please post up photos and specs on your car when done though.
Good to know that Kelly Moss has done similar things before. My C4S is actually paying them a visit next week -- I'll ask what they would ballpark a custom Safari job/if they have any recommendations.
That craigslist find is awesome.
FYI that the guy who manages most of the custom work wasn't around when I stopped by Kelly Moss, so I couldn't get a quote. I did chat with one of the other guys for a few minutes and he said that the 964 is easy to Safari due to their semi trailing arm rear suspension, but that multi-link rear suspension for the 996 requires custom parts to do a lift. He also mentioned that they just started working on a safari 993 car, which shares the same multi-link suspension with the 996, so as they progress on that project they'll have a clearer picture of everything needed for a complete build. I'll keep you posted if I learn any more.
I would plan on having someone build a locked replacement for the viscous Coupling ...
Its only engages on slip and I suspect engaging at the RPM's a 911 can
generate would be a bad thing ..
The front diff on the 911 is also pretty small ,, might need a custom 9" independent
housing to prevent carnage.
That is a good idea, haven't heard of that yet for the 996. And it will also need a way to decouple it in certain circumstances. For example if the front was totally locked, and you try to make a tight turn on asphalt or concrete, the tires will scrub badly and most likely break an axle.
OMG yes. 🤦 This happened to me when I had a Subaru 22B and locked the diff.
Now, back on the 996. For my part, wouldnt need stronger diffs, since i only plan on using it as a winter car in Quebec. If I could achieve the equivalent ground clearance as Crosstrek Id be happy.
i would just want enough space for the biggest tires that would fit on wheels as small as possible.
Im interested in doing a less aggressive option for my 996 c4, maybe 2. Mainly for looks and snow. I would like to be able to daily all year round as I live in the mountains.
I still like old Jeeps (had a couple) and would have one if I lived in the frigid north again. My H2 (the ultimate SUV) took me everywhere in the deep snow while living in NoVa back in the day.
I planned to do a 994 safari car and outfit it with my R43 engine for a trek to the Arctic Circle to prove some points. I changed my mind, just because of how busy we have been in 2019.
I think it would be a cool thing to do. We pretty much came up with most of the pieces needed to lift the car.
I ended up fitting the 440HP R43 engine into the C4 996, and selling the car back to the person who bailed on it when it failed due to bore scoring..
Jake,
Any chance you could share some of the basics with regard to the pieces you came up with for the lift? I am looking to raise my car a little. Maybe one to two inches.
Here's an older 911 I had the privilege to drive for a little more than one season of RallyCross. Reminded me how much I needed to get a 911 of my own...
You got to drive this car? I remember seeing posts about that one. Looks fun. As I remember there were only modest suspension changes.
Do you recall what had been done?
Cheers
Feal Coilovers claims their 441 Max Travel version can be set at +1" from factory heights. I wonder if you could go higher with spacers. Unfortunately, subframe spacers, probably to keep alignment specs. Subframe spacers don't look to be a trivial task on these cars.
When I had my car in at Kelly Moss in the spring (they're my local Porsche mechanic), they said they've started work on a custom spring and shock package for water-cooled 911s. I'm not in the market yet (waiting for my bugeye WRX to succumb to rust) so didn't press on details/pricing.
Although they have been working on a 991 Safari project with Vonnen --
https://www.kellymoss.com/galleries/...id-991-turbo-s
and
http://vonnen.com/builds/
. Build sheet says they use Motion Control Suspension adjustable coil over shocks for a 2" lift. Might be a good place to start for the 996 as well.
I went with ISC for my 4S. I liked the idea of separate shock and spring adjustment, tje Swift springs look to be decent quality. . However, the install was anything but smooth. I'm not sure they had really sold a set for the 4S before. But, they ended up sending me the right length shocks. And, maybe Gidspeed may be "jumk" but they sell adjustable front drop links that are really nice.
The rife on the street is comfortable and firm. I'll find pit about the track this weekend with Coastal Empire PCA at Roebling. i ended up about an inch down from stock, their original offering had the rear tire buried i. The fenderwell.
