The best option for the wood it to monitor ebay for used pieces in perfect shape to come up at reasonable prices and replace them as you go.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 2001 TT has Fugly interior problems. The leather is bubbling up in a few places and the drivers seat needs to be re-upholstered. But the ugliest problem is the wood trim. I can't tell if it is real wood or some sort of veneer / resin. but it is broken, chipped, peeling or outright missing in many places. It basically needs a full replacement. I didn't like the look of it at first, but I admit it is growing on me. the real problem (if I have it correct) it that this is a 2001 so there is only one year model with the exact fit and I think this is a rare color and trim combination.
So what are my options? Ideally I could find a roller with this exact color match, or at least the wood parts but I may have to wait for 10 years to find such a thing or longer. Is there any such thing as a full replacement kit of wood trim or another finish? Any chance that anyone would have these things sitting around because they replaced them with something else?
Any and all possible options would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Man that thing was beautiful at one point. That is sun damage, the car has spent a lot of time in the sun and in HEAT. That is as bad as it gets. With the wood take it all off and send it to craft customs but its not gonna be cheap!
That is my assumption. So, how "not cheap" are we talking, does anyone know? I'm not sure I'm willing to pay too much to replace the wood. Aren't there complete interior trim kits that replace ALL of that with brushed metal or carbon or ???
OP - MA Carbon and DB Carbon are two places to get a good dose of sticker shock for all the carbon bits. Alumalook stuff is also orbital-level pricing. My advise is to replace all with OE brown trim. Get in the PET and use your Google Fu skills to find the best prices.
I think you have to find a fine woodwork artisan one that works on old rolls Royce or Benz they do have some guys in Cali but it’s been years since I did any research for my 72 Benz I sold it before I wanted to mess with it
I think you'll want to be on the look out for good condition used pieces. Checking the price of an original horseshoe console part from Suncoast...that part alone is $3500! (2001 w/PCM). I'm not even sure all the other pieces are still available....and if so...you're talking astronomical prices. The cost would outweigh the benefits unless $ is no object and/or this is your forever car. Good luck!

If you are interested I have a single cinnamon gt3 seat I can sell you. The best option for the wood it to monitor ebay for used pieces in perfect shape to come up at reasonable prices and replace them as you go. People are usually able to work with you on pricing bc there isn't a strong market for wood trim in a 996.
This appears to be the "light wood package". It looks like all of it needs to be replaced, so if you do, it might be worth considering doing the "dark wood package" instead. I think most are of the opinion that the dark wood option looks better, so it's worth checking out (though only your opinion matters). As far as finding them on eBay, I suspect it will take a looong time, in addition to a lot of dollars, to find all the pieces you need in the dark or light color you want in good condition, so that seems like a longshot to me. You could maybe replace the ones you can find easily, and do the rest in non-wood, or just replace all of it with non-wood.
The door over the driver side cubby almost looks like vinyl wood "wrap" instead of veneer the way it is bubbled -- but that's unlikely given the rest looks like the normal cracking from long-term sun exposure.
If you can find someone to redo them, then that would be best. Another alternative might be to have someone do a hydro wood water transfer to recreate the wood look. Somebody on RL did this on their console and it looked good (the color chosen didn't look that great to my eye, but the process looks good). These are some of the grains that are available =>

I don't have any direct experience using it, but the process looked good and the "wood" options are amazing. Their "Dark Burl Wood" is a dead ringer for Porsche's "dark wood" option. If you don't care about matching the original wood options, some of the non-burl options would probably look much better than what Porsche chose for the 996.
As someone with a cinnamon/light wood car, I would abandon all hope of worrying about replacing the wood. Just buy the cheap OEM black parts and ditch the wood. There are some aftermarket cinnamon covers available, but it's few and far between
Wow, welcome the the wood club. I have the same interior and I have been trying to source parts for a while. They rarely come up on EBay.
If your not committed to wood, you can find replacement pieces pretty easily, but if you are you can send it off to be redone…I have not explored that option. One other option you have it to have the pieces hydro-dipped it is a fraction of the price and you get a good match. I can share pictures if interested.
One or two pieces you have that are almost impossible to find is the wood trim on the top of the dash near the vents.
Here is a photo of my full dark trim package just prior to moving to Key West. Purchased from the dealer in the 02/03 timeframe. All of this has been destroyed by the sun here. For now, I've replaced all the wood parts with the standard parts or leather. I'm never going back to wood. I have a full leather interior so I'm likely to go that route. I'm holding on to the parts as I believe they are excellent cores for covering with leather or other coverings. Excellent because they are slightly reduced in size and larger holes, etc. btw, the only wood part that held up? The handbrake.
Here are two examples of the hydro-dipped where they dip it and put a film on it. I had three pieces done, the batwing and the trim pieces by the defrost vent. It is not perfect, but I had all three pieces done for $150.00 and it makes it look closer to original.
Now that looks really sharp! One could get all the interior pieces done for around a grand or so? Smokin idea and better looking than many options while staying with the original scheme.
Thanks and I agree it works for most of the simple pieces. You might be able to get it for less than 1000.00 if you have more pieces. I am sure setup fees were part of the cost, but it does have it look closer to original.
The driver and passenger vents are a challenge as they have leather on the vents. You have to protect them really well or take them apart before they are dipped.
I am in Houston, and there are several places that can do it. I think Hydro-dip is a brand name. You might be surprised you have some places near by. I am pretty happy with the results and I am planning to have the center console dipped since it lost its wood veneer.
Have a look at the hydro options -- if you don't care about trying to match the original, a lot of these grains would look better (to my eye anyway) than the burl dark or especially the lighter color burl ->

There is no grain to the original wood because it's so heavily covered with poly, so I would imagine the hydra-dip can look very similar to the original wood (I have NOT seen hydra-dip in person though)

Where in Houston did you take yours? I am in Houston as well with a 996 that had every wood trim option possible and most of it is delaminated and warped. Also, how to they dip the pieces that are missing/broken? Can they make plastic or ABS replacements and dip those?
I'd like to know how the hydro-dipped process works on a physical level with regard to structural integrity of the underlying piece. I'm thinking specifically of those trim pieces on the top of the dashboard right under the bottom of the front windshield. Those wood pieces tend to break into pieces (as shown in the photo below from post #1) and curl up a bit (due to the wildly different heat expansion rates of the wood trim and what it attached to).
Does the hydro-dip process include fixing the foundation of that broken trim? I would also like to know if there are vinyl/leather replacements for the under-the-windshield trim (backup plan in case that wood trim can't be fixed). I've looked for non-wood replacements for them on eBay and elsewhere but haven't seen them. Maybe the wood+leather dashboard top is different than the leather-only dashboard top.
