Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I will keep an open mind though to check BAT for other options down the road!

I was recommended GT Imports in Riverside as one shop to take it to, but plan to call around.

I'm definitely going to follow up with the other recommended shops and see what their availability is.

I am working on trying to find a reliable restoration shop in Southern California, preferably around Orange County, to repair a '99 911 Carrera that has been garaged for the last 9 years without being started.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All,
I am new here so apologies for any poor formatting or lack of knowledge.
I am working on trying to find a reliable restoration shop in Southern California, preferably around Orange County, to repair a '99 911 Carrera that has been garaged for the last 9 years without being started. Since the engine hasn't been turned over in all that time, it seized almost immediately when someone tried to start it. I am thinking that the engine requires a rebuild as well as a replacement of various hoses, lines, tanks, etc. I am also considering replacing the engine if that is the better option.
Are there any reputable shops that anyone can recommend?
I was recommended GT Imports in Riverside as one shop to take it to, but plan to call around.
Quick relevant facts about the car:
- Has around 100K miles
- Garaged in Florida by the previous owner
- Has the original engine it was sold with
- No other notable repair work other than standard maintenance and upkeep
Hi, I have a small workshop in OC and focus on preservation/restoration of water cooled Porsches, but what you're looking for will require much more serious work and will take some time. Try C&F in Costa Mesa. They are down to earth and will save you from having to transport the car to another city.
Regards,
Daniel
Thanks! I'll look into them. I did also find auto strasse Corp but am hesitant since they seem to have a nearly perfect track record except for some old reviews on rebuilt engines.
Plenty of threads here on engine rebuilds. There r all kind if shops out there, good, bad and ugly. Learn about these motors and the questions u should be asking.
Not to stray, but with the price of 996s these days, you can probably buy one with half the miles for less than what you're going to be out of pocket with rebuilding one from ground up-- especially if you're engine is toast. I just got a 1999 with 76k miles, which so far just needs things I can do in the garage for just under $18k. A beautiful 1999 in red with 32k miles sold for $30k a few weeks ago (but the buyer dropped out and it's up for sale again on BAT). I would be watching BAT closely if I were in your shoes.
Thanks for that information. I would consider purchasing another but this car is being gifted to me by a family member so the only "cost" associated is just this repair work, and they are covering half of it as well since they never intended for the vehicle to be garaged for this long. I will keep an open mind though to check BAT for other options down the road!
OP - Go by both Callas and Vision. Both operations are very impressive. Wherever you think you want to send the car, I recommend you go see the place and talk to the staff. Evaluate the vibe. What kinds of cars and repairs are you seeing there? A great shop will ask the right questions and you'll need to know what your expectations and budget are after doing the required research. Others have hinted that this isn’t a low cost project. Prepare yourself for a min $10k-max $25k matrix. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
PCA Orange County would be a resource for you.
Agreed, it isn't going to be a low budget solution no matter what option I go with. I'm definitely going to follow up with the other recommended shops and see what their availability is. I appreciate all the recommendations and tips from you all! I'll keep checking this thread and providing updates in case it helps someone else in the future.
