I also took the chance to clean the throttle body but it was moving quite freely so I think the root cause was the MAF sensor in my case.

2004 C4S 108,000 miles, experiencing rough idle when cold, the car starts right up but sometimes will kill and if I try to give it any gas it will die, sometimes I can feather the gas and get some rpms and it will clear right up, once it is running for a few minutes it runs great, it only does it after it sits overnight, once it is going there are no issues at all.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

I experience the same thing with my '02 C2 when the ambient temperature is around 100' Fahrenheit or higher (in other words every summer here in Phoenix). Here's a thread where Skip et. al. discuss possible causes: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...rt-issues.html For me at least the issue goes away whenever my garage temperatures go down to slightly more liveable levels.

POST 4Original post

If it was 55' Celsius it would! You'd have to live in Death Valley to pull that off though. On a more serious note, the thread I linked discusses a lot of possible mechanical causes as well and includes input from some of the major tech heavyweights on the board - it's well worth the read.

POST 6Original post

I was going to suggest the MAF but I see you got it. You can always check it by removing it and if it suddenly idles and runs better you know thats the issue. I replaced mine with a Bremi MAF and it worked perfect afterwards. Price was $132
