Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Oh wow, apologies, thought it was the same car from the other thread, my bad!

Suggestion
They seemed honest, even going so far as to say we "recommended the owner do this and that but he did not." That gave me more negotiating power for that car and I got a decent deal.
Leading evidence: 'same car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same car' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend owner do this' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Would I be better using a shop that has not serviced the car previously or would it be good to use a shop where work has already been done and they have some history with it?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking at a 2004 seal grey C4S, the seller stated it's a "40th anniversary edition" addition but I've only known that to be a c2 in Arctic silver. However in 1 Vin look up it does say 40th anniversary trim. Were there trims in c4s for the 40th ae? I'm assuming the seller is wrong.
.
Run, there is no 40th Anniversary C4S. All 40th anniversary’s were C2’s and GT Silver. All had Powerkit and LSD’s. I’m sure some of the experts on here can chime in with more and/or accurate info but those are the basics.
Nice car and 2003 was a good year for Porsche but all AE were 2s and in 04.
Its not a factory AE car.
Yes, looks like a nice ride.
Good luck with the sale.
I'll be getting a ppi and the car is out of state. Would I be better using a shop that has not serviced the car previously or would it be good to use a shop where work has already been done and they have some history with it?
I would be more concerned about which shop "knows" porsche rather than if one knows the car. Find the shop with the most porsche experience, then call the one who has been servicing the car and ask questions if they are not the best shop. Any good shop wont care who is the buyer or seller and will usally give you the info you want about the car. Assuming they have a long history with the car.
As I mentioned in the other thread you started about this car; there is no c4s 40AE car, BUT, whomever was the original owner of this car likely knew about the 40AE and special ordered this car to mirror aspects of the 40AE given the interior was ordered in the same color/material and some of the other options like the heated sport seats and center console being painted in the exterior color.
That car is one of highest original MSRP 996 C4s coupes Ive ever seen at over $140k new, def worth looking into as its a very unique spec. Too bad its on a lot being sold by folks that dont know about these cars, but wouldnt be a deal breaker for me provided a PPI came back with tolerable results.
It's up to the shop on how honest they want to be. I took mine for a PPI that serviced it for the previous owner. They seemed honest, even going so far as to say we "recommended the owner do this and that but he did not." That gave me more negotiating power for that car and I got a decent deal.
Yup, have the same car listed here on CL, been sitting for over a year on the market. I even called to let them know but they left it as is and keep renewing the listing as is.
Believe it or not, that car was different than this, totally different sellers although both 2004 C4S's and both mentioned 40th AE, which is why I asked but yes, all my research says otherwise. This one I am passing one because the owner did a c4 to c2 conversion and i'm looking for a true C4S. I will say, digging into the history of all these older car is very interesting. There is always something...
Oh wow, apologies, thought it was the same car from the other thread, my bad! Too funny that youve managed to find two c4s cars that the sellers are claiming 40AE (given their is no such thing). Carry on, best of luck in youre hunt, they are truly amazing cars for the money. Just know, they are still $90k cars to maintain, but given the cost of entry, I feel you can spend quite a bit on them and still come out way ahead.
