Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

ALSO, I tried getting the shifter alignment tool (less than $4 from ecs tuning) on and it wouldn't even go on while in neutral until I disconnected the shifter cables.

Not understanding why they were on there, I removed them when I installed my Numeric shifter, then everything went to mush.. I later fixed it temporarily with safety wire.
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My transmission has been intermittently struggling to shift into first for a long time now. It would almost always go in fine if I was sitting still but occasionally would try to pop out if I wanted to shift into first while still moving. When I replaced the motor mounts, the shifting surprisingly became a bit smoother (before replacing them I had moments where it wouldn't go into 1st even standing still unless I fiddled with it a sec) but still wasn't perfect. The connections at the trans side seemed perfectly fine.
Worried that I was going to have
real
transmission issues to deal with, I figured I would check everything and pulled the console. The first thing, which could be seen even through the removed ashtray section, was that the right cable was moving around a TON when shifting. Removed the entire console and the plastic clip that holds that side in had broken tabs so wouldn't stay on at all.
ALSO, I tried getting the shifter alignment tool (less than $4 from ecs tuning) on and it wouldn't even go on while in neutral until I disconnected the shifter cables. It was that far off.
I figured I would start with some JB Weld as a first step, and replace the cables ($350 and a crappy day) as a last resort.
Pay no attention to the nasty post-duct-tape gunk behind the clip or my terrible plastic weld job...it works.

astounding
. I mean night & day difference.
I took a long drive around town, with a bit of moderate stop & go traffic included and it clicks perfectly into 1st every time, even while slowing down. Every gear seems more firmly planted and "switch"-like. I didn't get a single instance of first gear even beginning to pop out or not want to be in gear.
Moral of the story:
I should've done this a loooong time ago.
Also, ECS says the shifter lock doesn't fit 996 but it does.
Nice job.
I had the exact same thing happen. The PO had bandaided it with hose clamps. Not understanding why they were on there, I removed them when I installed my Numeric shifter, then everything went to mush.. I later fixed it temporarily with safety wire.
The final fix is Numeric cables!
