Or I could just drive it like it is and not worry about keeping it clean and use my Audi A4 Quatro for the dirt roads.

If I did something like this I'm sure I'd use the car a lot more.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hope this viseo hasn't been posted here already.
I live on a dirt road and there are a ton of dirt roads in my area. I don't drive my car a lot because every time I get home with it it is covered in dust/dirt. Have to wash it before putting the cover on it and usually also wipe down the engine compartment and as much under carriage as possible.
I have always been a rally fan and own a couple Jeeps for hard core off roading / crawling but I have the desire to drive fast on the dirt roads around here, hanging the tail out and driving sideways. So this Leh Keen guy has built a pseudo rally air cooled 911 for just playing around. Air cooled cars are getting crazy in value so I thought why not use a "cheap" 996 as a base car? If I did something like this I'm sure I'd use the car a lot more. Or I could just drive it like it is and not worry about keeping it clean and use my Audi A4 Quatro for the dirt roads.

+1 on lieberino's find, although I will say that thing has been for sale forever (over a year IIRC). It used to show up on Denver CL but he's posted it pretty much everywhere. Also I want to say the starting price was in the $40's and now it's low $30's, and he may have dropped it to $29k at one point. He's clearly put a lot of work into it but just can't sell it (paint might have something to do with it?). Maybe a bargain?
Heres one for sale. Not sure why a car in Tulsa, OK is on the Atlanta CL.

Poops, just noticed its the same car as shown above!
The olive green 996 has been for sale for a while. The problem with a true safari 996 would be getting the suspension set up correctly. I foresee $$$$ spent on custom suspension components to get a 1.5" lift.
This olive car takes to the extreme the old lesson about trying to sell a modified car. The more personalized a car becomes the more that car becomes for one person
Can't believe he made this rally car and it's not a C4!! I actually really like it and would be interested if it was a C4. But at a much lower price...
This weekend I just saw a 964 Safari that finished Baja 1000 first in class. It started out as a 4 but was converted to 2

That is great. Funny how I was just thinking of "are there any 996 rally cars out there" yesterday!!! Money can do anything with perseverance. I think I'll just watch and enjoy
I want more road clearance on my 996 Turbo in order to drive into the CA mountains in the winter, and even make it up my driveway (on a small mountain in northern CA). What do you know about getting 1.5" (or even 1") lift?
I get to "Safari" my 996 everyday...
Just moved in before the owner could finish dropping gravel. The rains came the day we moved in and it has hardly stopped long enough to fix in two weeks.
I know that FEAL makes a coil over for the 996 turbo that they state can go 1" over stock height (their "Max Travel" variant:

)
If you could then shoehorn tires that were .5" bigger than stock into the wheel wells, you would have a 1 1/4" inch lift over stock. The question remains if you could get the suspension aligned properly at that height.
For a rally 996, could you get 18" tires that would have sufficient traction on gravel and dirt? Probably not. My thought is that a swap to smaller discs/calipers that would fit under, ideally, 16" rims would be necessary.
I just learned that Hoosier makes a 200/650R18 gravel tire. That would fit on a 18x6.5 rim, and has a diameter of 25.5 inches, which should fit in the wheel wells, especially because it is so narrow.
All of this being said, you could by an imprezza for cheap and modify it for half the price of a 996, and probably be faster in most conditions.
