Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking to see if the orange bulbs on the interior dash, switches and HVAC controls can be changed to something more modern.
How did you do it, what was the level of difficulty etc. Maybe post some pictures and links to where you got the products. I have found some info but nothing too helpful.
Thank you in advance!
I have heard horror stories about removing the gauge cluster face plate and getting all the needles back where they belong. This would not be a project for the faint hearted. What's wrong with the orange? To me it gives the car a OEM retro feel all the way back to the early 911's. As I remember an old thread on this forum, someone embarked on doing this and managed to change out all the clusters and switches to a different color. I did a search and can't find it though.
I absolutely loath the orange. Reminds me of a late 80s early 90s GM product. I am pretty skilled so I am not worried about actually performing the change, I just want to know what products are needed. Obviously I wouldn't shun a tutorial lol.
I also ran some searches but kept turning up nothing. the problem with a search is if I am asking the question in a different form than they posted our two worlds will not collide...
I know that there was a guy who posted here on the 996 board in the past who changed all his amber lighting to blue. It looked like a fairly big job, but the end result looked good. It certainly can be done. I agree that the amber lighting has a 1990s look to it, but the 996 was designed in the 1990s. It seems very appropriate to me.
Try searching for LED or interior lighting threads in the 996 forum.
Hey Jim, I just went through that whole thread and let me say you did some amazing things! I did see you modified the dash lights but I didn't see how you did it or where you got the parts. Could you please give more detail if you don't mind? I would like to change the dash lights, and all the other button lights.
Thank you very much!
The 0nes for the cluster are a simple replacement. The ones in the buttons, climate control and head loght switch have to be soldered. I just had an electronics repair shop do that for me.
amber lighting or that red/orange lighting is better for your eyes to readjust to dark road ahead. So I'm a bit baffled as to why one would want to not have the best possible researched solution that's already implemented.
