In my first plan I would inspect the boots and seals and order if necessary but with the prices Im fiding online for the parts I think I will change them anyway.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone! Just to let you know, this is my first post as an official Rennlist member! Thanks for your tech answers on my questions even if my English is not perfect! That aside I have one more tech question about caliper rebuilt kits. So I plan on doing an almost complete brake job on my C4S next spring so rotors, pads, caliper rebuilt and painting. I do have all the parts except for caliper boots and seal + pistons. In my first plan I would inspect the boots and seals and order if necessary but with the prices Im fiding online for the parts I think I will change them anyway. The pistons only will be changed if necessary. So for the rebuilt kits It seems that I have 3 options so far: -Centric kit -PowerStop kit -Brembo/OEM Need to buy seperatly 44-36-30-28mm + Brembo seals The Centric and PowerStop are affordable only the Brembo parts are more expensive. I was wondering if some people here experienced problem with fitment of the seal / dust boots, basicly problem putting pistons back in ect.... Im also curious to know which kit you used. So far I decided to go with ATE rotors and Brembo pads so nothing out of the ordinary but I want to keep the car in stock form and do as much preventive maintenane I can do by myself. I dont track the car but I do spirited driving pretty much all the time. Im rebuilding my brake this way to have a starting point and see if an upgrade would be benefical in the future or if it will be a complete waste of money (Mostly thinking about GiroDisc 350mm 2 pieces and more aggresive pads) On a side note someone have the Porsche PN for the pressure seals? I do have the listing fir the dust boots but cant find the seals numbers. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I purchased the Stoptech parts from another person on Rennlist: Mike at Ohio Performace Solutions. Their website is https://www.ohioperformancesolutions.com/ I received a discount, at the time he had a discount code for Rennlist members. You can email him at [email removed] I told him my year and model and he knew the parts I required.

POST 3Original post

RacingBrake is another option for seals, pistons and boots.

POST 4Original post

I don't believe OEM pistons are available (at least not through Porsche). I went with racing brake stainless pistons and have been happy with them. One note about them, they won't work with the factory dampers - so you can leave those out and save a bit of money.

Perfect thanks! It seems that their price is better off ebay even after the 10% discount offered to Rennlist member! NickShu: Thanks for your suggestion, I will go on theire website to compare price/quality offered. charlieaf92: Thanks for your input! Really good information.. Too bad I wasnt informed of that cause I ordered dampers for front + rear and received everything today... I would have kept the money and put it on new pistons set... Anyway I learn everyday and Ill defenately remember this one. Next time I wont bother ordering the dampers and go straight to pistons replacement. So I will simply dismantle all the pistons inspect them and if something is wrong I wont install the dampers and order complete pistons set. Thanks again for the info.

The prices on our website will be cheaper by 10% for Rennlisters (thats a word I think) Prices should match ebay without discount. Let me know if you need anything! Also you want the 28/30/36/44 (4 of each!) - Don't buy them separate (28/30 and 36/44) as you will spend more money which is unacceptable! M

Don't feel bad. I have a set of brand new dampers in my garage for the same reason. You live and learn. Definitely saving some $$ overall by doing it yourself regardless.

You are absolutely right! My calculations from US to CDN was wrong and it made me believe Ebay was cheaper... I will use your website! Thanks!

I want to do it myself, yes for money but also for experience, I think as an owner/operator you have to know your machine on the tip of your fingers. There is some jobs Im affraid to attemp due to lack of knowledge or because I dont have the proper tools (IMS, Clutch, Transmision, Engine rebuilt for example) But I dont mind trying the rest and get more experience, knowledge, fun and money in my pocket or should I say re-invested on the car!!

POST 10Original post

Mike at Ohio Performance responds quickly, provides parts that are exactly what you need and are fairly priced. No need to go anywhere else... Bob

POST 11Original post

On a related note, while I have not as yet asked my multi-marque indy if he wants to or is capable of rebuilding my 2000 C 2 front calipers, does anyone know if there is a shop out there that does rebuild them? Just need to have plan “B” just in case.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi! I know it sounds weird, more a question then an answer but do you think an hydraulic/cylinder rebuilt shop could handle this easily? Maybe there is 1 or 2 around your place with prices lower then indy that would do the job especially if you provide the parts. Plus Im sure theses guys can restore scored pistons bore but Im not sure about restoring aluminum pistons.

POST 13Original post

Any halfway decent shop should be able to rebuild calipers. It's just a brembo caliper after all. No real magic.

There's a specialty Porsche brake shop in my town that is known for vintage brakes, but does them all. PMB Performance.

POST 15Original post

Seriously, if you have an ounce of mechanical skill and an air compressor, this is not a hard job.

POST 16Original post

Have the skill, no comp., but more importantly a lack of desire. Getting lazy in my old age.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Decided to go with the kit from Ohio Performace Solutions. Thanks guys
