After some cleaning the 996 did great in 4" of snow on top of 1/4" of ice, the Wintrac Extremes are awesome.

This was great during the winter because I could wash the car in the garage and then use a floor squeegee to wash all the water and soap down the drain.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After getting our first real snow storm in the NE, I decided to see just how much the C4S could get through.
Conclusion : Porsche makes great snowmobiles!
I was going through enough in some deeper patches with ease where it was coming over the hood and windshield. And with PSM off, I found the car very controlable in slides.
Only 2 small problems I encountered was I clogged an ABS sensor and got the "ABS/PSM Malfunction" which left me with no ABS or PSM for a bit. Drove around, restarted and errors were gone.
The other was its impossble to keep the front radiators from getting clogged with snow, which resulted in slightly higher water temps, but nothing extreme ( I tried the AC trick to get the front fans on, but they did not kick in. May have been clogged ??)
Best part is that since it was pure snow (no salt), everything underneath got a great cleaning. Well that, and all the crazy looks I was getting from plow trucks
If you got some recent snow pics, post them up
I'm in Florida, so I have no pics to post, but those are fantastic!!! Glad to see you are out using it, and not keeping it under a dust cover in the garage.

My C2 has been my daily driver for the past 4 years in suburban Chicago. The only issue was last year's blizzard that caught out everyone. Blizzaks go on in November and off in March (which I hope comes in January this year!).
Just an update on the fans, I drove around a bit today and they worked with the AC on. So they must have been clogged with snow.
I think it would help next time to have these on prior to going through the deep stuff.
If anyone has done the "fan mod" for a 996.2 please post the details (all I can find are ones for 99-2001). TIA
Still waiting on our first snow here, but I've got the Vrdenstein Wintrac Extremes mounted. Freezing rain and sleet thus far have been an non-issue. Bring it on!
Had a close call with that, but was able to back it out. Can imagine asking someone in a plow truck to come help me pull a 911 out
Keep the snow pics coming!

Living outside for a brief period of time, my Mini Cooper S is fully detailed and for sale, so it gets dibs on the garage. After some cleaning the 996 did great in 4" of snow on top of 1/4" of ice, the Wintrac Extremes are awesome.
Yup, right up there with taking it through Green Lantern and their swirling scratch brushes. I frequently use a car wash over the winter when my hoses are frozen, but I still take my buckets and washmit to do a hand wash. Otherwise you are better off just going touchless, which I do when it's too cold to hand wash.
Agree with the touchless but just watch out for frozen door handles and locks when you have very cold ambient temp. Had that problem last week when frunk wouldn't open after being washed earlier that day.
My approach in the winter is to only go through the touchless when it is above freezing, then I dry my jambs and weather strips to keep from being frozen out. Been there, done that.
My old house had a huge 3-car garage with hot and cold running water. It also had floor drains. This was great during the winter because I could wash the car in the garage and then use a floor squeegee to wash all the water and soap down the drain. My new house doesn't have drains.
I like the idea of taking my wash bucket and lambswool wash mitt up to the coin operated car wash and doing it there. I think I may do that this afternoon!
My little sister in law stopped by my house a few days ago, her gas light was on but her Mazda3 gas door was frozen shut. A few cups of steaming hot water and away she went.

You guys have been putting up some great shots. Nice to see some other 911s that get year round use
As you might have seen, the NE has gotten another storm and made things quite pretty (and extremely cold). After looking around for a new location I found an old nursing home that doesnt look occupied but still maintained and plowed. Made for a nice, private shoot. If it wasnt so cold I would have gotten more
Freakin' cold here in KC today, but took my sons out with the 951 and the 996 for some parking lot fun. A police officer stopped by to watch for about 20 minutes, before we drew a crowd and he said "Sorry, but time to leave."
That's awesome. Love the car and great to see someone getting rowdy in their 911. I went to a PCA event early december and I was the only one with there car there because it was right after a big snowstorm.

A rare sighting....a C2 without winter rubber photographed in the wild near a watering hole. I suspect it was there preparing to wash itself off after a few days of frolicking in unseasonably warm weather last week. My suspicion is it rinsed off and went back to its winter habitat. I was lucky to photograph this beast when I did. It's a young beast too; the orange markers have not turned smoked yet.....
Decided to drive to work this week to CNJ. Apparently I brought CNY with me
On the plus side this is the least amount of traffic I have seen in NJ in the morning
(Yesterday afternoon and this morning)
Glad to see so many driving in the snow.
I just took my C4 out in the snow today for the first time. The snow had packed into ice mostly, so it was really just slick with no real depth. It handled the stuff better than my 4WD pickup does with snow tires, and my C4 just has Conti DWSs.
Now I understand what everyone has been saying about the capability of these cars in the snow...
Now that I think of it you've got a pretty good point. My C2 is a lot of fun in good weather, but there are higher horsepower cars that you can do a lot more with in the dry. Cars that can break the rear tires loose with ease and make a little 996 seem rather tame.
In the snow though, like my commute this morning, the base 996 is just about unbeatable. Great steering feedback, enough ground clearance to get through snow mounds, plenty of power to step the tail out, great heat, rear defroster, etc.
Here's what my driveway looked like the last time it was visible ... today's forecast is 8 to 16, I'm really hoping for the low number.

Alright you snow guys, when this comes out, it should make driving in the snow that much more pleasurable. Ice racing might even be a reality for some of you.
Now for the clearance issue, if someone can come out with cost effective cockpit adjustable system other than the $15k KW system that is currently available(bagged systems excluded), you guys would be all set.
