Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Preparing for spark plug change on my '02 Cab and noticed the coil covers on both sides are gone. How important are they, and where can I source replacements?

POST 2Original post

probably removed by the PO because the newer style coils are thicker, and on some cars they don't fit with the covers installed try Suncoast Porsche, or maybe Porsche Parts Heaven you may be able to install them with some longer bolts and spacers

POST 3Original post

Mine were missing too. They aren't that expensive and it took me all of 10 minutes to put them on. My coils are 100% more shielded now.

POST 4Original post

Your engine is hot; but the mufflers are hotter. The coils are plastic and expensive. The covers are all over ebay for ~$25.

POST 5Original post

I have a spare set off a 2000 996 that you can have for the cost of shipping. They should fit in a flat rate box. Drop me a private message.

POST 9Original post

I have installed the updated coils on two 996s and there was no issue fitting the heat shields over them. FWIW my first 996 was missing them when I got it as well. You will need the two bolts that hold them on (2 per side, 4 total), M6 or M8 IIRC.

POST 10Original post

Depending on the supplier most OEM come with the new bolts. My BERU ones did

POST 11Original post

+1, the Porsche OEM BERU coils from Warehouse33 come with longer bolts and fit perfectly... but you do need some spacers to fit the shield back on. Cheers,

POST 12Original post

Didn’t need spacers when I replaced the coils on my 2003 but I have heard some do

Sounds like a MK1 vs. MK2 thing
