This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Local Indy will be replacing original water pump and stat on my 20 year old 996 (64k miles) on round two of maintenance. Pelican states the Porsche pump has a composite impeller, Pierburg is metal (and $100 cheaper) and GEBA is composite and the same price as Pierburg. I plan on keeping the car, and as both P and G are listed as OEM, not too worried about either one, unless someone can talk me out of the composite. Im embarrassed to ask this, but since I moved to FL, and its quite a bit hotter than PA, should I bother with the colder stat, or just forget it. Most of my driving is on relatively empty roads, not a lot of sitting in traffic. I know there have been extensive discussions about this one.

POST 2Original post

Composite impeller and low temp tstat. Easy peasy.

POST 3Original post

Don't do the metal impeller, when it starts to go it ruins your engine along with it. There's a reason why Porsche OEM is composite/plastic.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.....

POST 5Original post

+1 for the low temp stat. Low Temp means the functional operation of the unit, not ambient air temp or environment. A low temp stat just means it will start circulating coolant through the radiators at a lower temp (sooner) than the stock version, definitely beneficial in warmer climates like FL
