I soldered the wires which was a little messy but a solid connection, used a rod to feed the wires to the sub down the dash to the center console.

IDK if it was the wires I didn't cover after soldering or the terminals on the speaker that were touching.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

HI! First forum post ever
. Here's the situation: after replacing the original speakers in my dashboard and rear (the old Nokia ones had deteriorated), I installed a PCCM+ system. Everything was running smoothly for a good while, despite the absence of that deep bass I craved. To rectify this, I opted to add a basic under-seat subwoofer. My approach involved tapping into the 12V/GND of the PCCM and linking the input to the front right speaker's wires (the twisted red and red-brown ones, to be precise).
However, a slight mishap occurred during the processI accidentally cut the 12V & GND wires simultaneously, which resulted in a spark and blew a fuse. No major issue; I simply replaced the fuse. After reassembling everything, the system initially didn't work. I decided to let it sit for a day, and upon reconnecting to Apple CarPlay and playing a song, it miraculously started functioning again! Unfortunately, this success was short-lived. Roughly 15 minutes into my drive, the audio completely cut out, though the PCCM itself seemed unaffected.
340,000 miles and still running strong!
I figured it out. front right speaker was getting shorted out by the frame of the car. IDK if it was the wires I didn't cover after soldering or the terminals on the speaker that were touching. but I got it! but the speaker fell off the housing just enough to touch some of the frame.
happy boy, with some tunes again!
Holy crap. Thats awesome 340k
Sorry 2 hijack but what did you do to keep her going ? Any major things?
PS Im also here to get a feel on installing a under passenger seat sub as well to tap RCAs off my new deck.
I bought the car from someone that put 300k on sooo I don't have much in the way of experience on the 996's though I was so compelled to by this car, for the price but also the story. single owner dentist died of cancer. "what do you plan to do with it" his son asked me, "hit 500k" i replyed
The whole installation was a breeze, the front of the dash where the head unit sits is easy to take off, and wiring it to the back is simple, I just tucked the wire in some of the panels in the center console. I soldered the wires which was a little messy but a solid connection, used a rod to feed the wires to the sub down the dash to the center console. My 'under seat sub' isn't quite under, it's right behind the passenger seat. It's not the most elegant solution, the sub is a little too big for under the seat (which I expected). Rockville SS8P 400w 8" is what I put in, perfect for adding low end for the car, it's nothing crazy but hides well. the whole system is so much better but please note the prior system I had, the Nokia, suuuuucked. so I really don't know the potential for acoustics in the 996 but I'm happy, so ~$250 later and Ill stay ignorant till the whole system blows at 500k.
