I thought about that for a second and realized I am an extremely lucky man and could still pull off selling one kidney if I run into this scenario (kiddingly-kinda, pm me if interested, lol).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Eh... Beautiful looking car... Nobody knows but you. It's only a car, and as has been discussed here ad nauseum, there are tons of them out there. If I were in the market for a 996, yours would certainly check a few boxes (love the color, both interior and exterior) obviously, it would have to pass a PPI re; mechanicals etc... If you decide to sell it GLWS!
I dont know what to ask for it yet. 65k miles. I took it to RAC about a month ago for a preemptive ppi and had them do repairs on everything they found - over $2k of work. This is my favorite color and I know Ill never find another this nice so Im really torn.
Best thing to do is take a deep breath and closely examine all of your options. If after a thorough look at the situation and you have no other way to generate the much needed funds, then put it up for sale. No doubt you'll hate the day is leaves your home, but family priorities are more important than any car. When you bounce back, they'll be others waiting for you.
You will forever regret the day you sell it and somebody drives off in it. Get rid of something else to make space. There is my opinion and two cents. Porsche - there is no substitute!
You could always list it at a price that makes you feel good if it actually sells. I've done this and mine didn't sell so that means it wasn't meant to happen.
I sold a 1988 911 Targa back in 2005 for about what our cars are worth. Prices more than doubled since then. Back then, the 996 was $80k. Did I regret it? No, because theres always going to be another 911. Have you seen 997 prices lately? They are coming way down.
But if you are the type to regret things, then Id exercise caution. There will always be another 911, but unlikely not one exactly like yours.
What do you need the money and space for?
Lol I actually called about your car earlier this summer, straight away you made a really obtuse comment like "so do you even have any clue what you're looking at here" or something and I immediately knew I wouldn't be looking at your car.
To the OP. Keep it if you can. I just spent the past few months searching for a 996. I just get the feeling that nice examples are on the verge of a marked uptick. I don't think they'll double overnight but I do get a sense that the market feels somewhat akin to the air-cooled market right before it took off; nice examples with low-mid miles were selling within hours or days, sellers shotgunned with interest, flippers have entered the 996 market and I know because I've watched a handful turned around and even sold PPI results to one, and some crazy auction prices happening on BAT. Now that I have one I understand. Phenomenal car for the money. The narrow bodied 3.4 cars look and sound classic 911 with modern refinement and speed. The 997 is nice but somehow just felt a little more dull to drive than an early raw 996.
Guys - thanks for the comments. With the work I had done, a full PPI from a reputable shop, IMS/clutch/AOS/water pump done at 48K miles, I won't fire sale it. That said, it was a DD for the PO and has some cosmetic imperfections. Both bumpers and the frunk lid repainted(documented in PO records) from chips/parking lot scuffs. But overall, its a beautiful car with great mechanical and no excuses. Still haven't made up my mind. This is my fifth and probably last Porsche so a very difficult decision.
Mark
Too funny. I had a fair amount of calls, and was pretty direct with people to see if they knew what they were looking at or just looking to lowball me. Finally had enough of it and took it off the market and haven't looked back.
Sounds like you made up your mind with that last sentence.
It also sounds like this post is a feeler post - to determine if your car will be desirable or not, how much work youve done, etc.
Did I miss where you posted why you need the space and money?
So I think folks are going to want it, but remember, the color is specific and these cars can take a while to sell.
Mark, I would be careful, you are not thinking straight and I know why....the post above was your 666th post.
Post another one and your mind will be clearer
Seriously though, your last sentence hits home for me....whatever your situation...do what is right for you....
I don't think he was trying to be rude or hurtful, probably just feeling the Porsche sellers overexertion which comes from the frustration with dealing with lots of tire kickers. I've sold a lot of sports cars, but the Porsche crowd is the worst.
I know exactly what you mean. Just sold a Boxster and was so fed up with craigslist I was getting ready to put the car on BAT or eBay with no reserve just to be done with it.
Hey Mark, sorry to hear youve decided you need to sell the car and not wanting to. Just wanted to add to the convo from someone who is addicted to shopping for these cars over the past year or so: there is a reason prices are all over the map. Sure some folks have no concept of the current market (and price too high or low), but I think a lot more of it is the fact that these cars cost $70-90k when new, meaning that they arent the cheapest cars to maintain. Most cars on the used market need a few to several thousands of dollars in maintenance/cosmetics in order to be great. Your car sounds like one that needs very little of either. As such, Id stick to your guns on that price as it seems very fair in liu of what youve advertised. Regardless, GLWS and off it sells, hope to see you back in a pcar soon.

Thanks for the kind words. As I posted earlier, I had RAC correct almost all of the mechanical issues found on the PPI so this car is ready for the next owner to enjoy!
Sorry Mark. On the bright side, it appears the 996 marked has bottomed out and made an upward turn...Hold firm as I think your car is worth every penny!
Best of luck on the sale Mark. It's a nice car, but it's just a car. I'm on pace to drive mine 3K miles this year...if I needed the cash (which is a real possibility in the next year), I don't think I can justify hanging on.
But never say never! I'm really hoping the 997.2 / 991's don't turn out to need so much preventative maintenance.
OMG! Too funny. I thought about that for a second and realized I am an extremely lucky man and could still pull off selling one kidney if I run into this scenario (kiddingly-kinda, pm me if interested, lol).
My wife's kidneys (both) failed 10 years ago and she needed a transplant. She had no viable family members so she made me go to the doctor to see if I would be a match. Well, that's like playing the lottery! The odds of me being a match is crazy so I said "sure, my love, no problem". Well, crap, guess what? I was a perfect match, but high blood pressure knocked me out of candidacy at the end. She got another kidney 3 years later and all is good. I still have 2 left and can afford to give up one for my 911 dream
In all seriousness, that's a tough one to work through. Best of luck.
