Unsuccessful attempt

I had black satin wheels on my 996, and changed back to silver (well, back to arctic silver, not the stock silver). The black wheels just disappeared into the wheel wells, and really didn't work.

Suggestion

My understanding (perhaps incorrect) is that lenses for US domestic use have to have the DOT markings as well; that wouldn't be something you'd see on a euro version of the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Porsche has recently restored 10+ 'classic' 911 and Boxster (986), including a couple 996's all in liquid metal silver. They look pretty awesome, and a number of questions come to mind. I'm assuming it would cost $200k+ to have a 996 restored by the classic program at $125 Euro's per hour plus parts, shipping etc. You also have to think these restored cars will only help improve the perception and value of the 986/996 in particular. I'm looking forward to seeing more detailed photos of these cars and see what they end of selling for. Here's some pictures of them, including the 996: Instagram

POST 5Original post

Subscribed, please post when you find more on the 996! Just read that at the end of the process you receive a book on your cars restoration and aprox 1,000 photos!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They apparently restored 20 and were all available for sale to the public (and sold) by Porsche Great Britain. Here's a pic below. I love the color and yet to see any more close ups of the 996 NB yet. More of the 20 cars are on Instagram and google. I can't wait to see close up shots and curious what they sold for.

POST 8Original post

I read that the 996.1 sold for 50k and the 996.2 Turbo for 70k

70gbp is cheap for a turbo restored by Porsche themselves, they go for that much here in Aus used!

whats the Instagram account?, love to see more of these pics. Those prices are crazy low for a fully restored car by Porsche.

All that fancy "Porsche Classic" restoration and extreme attention to detail; yet, they didn't plug the front tag holes? pffffff

POST 12Original post

I love that color... "liquid silver metallic" I think It is me, or that car is a Turbo but the headlights are the ones on the non turbos? (with the flat areas "stripped")

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 15427845

Total guess, but maybe the lens difference you are noticing is because they are euro lenses/beam pattern, not DOT? Edit: I understand that there is a difference between the lenses of US market turbo and non-turbo cars. I'm suggesting that perhaps the euro lenses on these cars (sold in Great Britain) are similar in appearance to the US turbo lenses on the outside. My understanding (perhaps incorrect) is that lenses for US domestic use have to have the DOT markings as well; that wouldn't be something you'd see on a euro version of the car.

I have a couple of "spare" Litronic/Xenon/HID headlights for my car that I got off of eBay. One is a "normal" C2 style with the stripes in the reflector and the other is the flat "Turbo" style reflector. Both fit my car and work. I now think that the Turbo ones might fit a C2 the reflectors just look different. I'm currently on the lookout for a Turbo style passenger headlight, or a C2 style driver side headlight. I'll double check that the "turbo" style is a DOT when I get home this evening.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 15427848

In EU it was the same. The Turbo had the silver reflectors and the non-turbo 996.2 had the "stripped" reflectors. That was a "cosmetic" thing, not related with the certification standard (DOT or EU). But, well, in those photos it could be a reflection from the ceiling. I was just pointing it but it is difficult to see if it is really the silver one with that quality on the picture

POST 17Original post

Hi! I've found these on Instagram. They are gorgeous.

POST 18Original post

Those look amazing. If we can get people to think of the 996 as cool (we all know it is already) itll get the prices out of the dumpster.

POST 19Original post

I like the way they satin blacked out the wheels and mirrors, helps with silver 996s and make them look a lot more modern. Definitely blacking out the front grill on the 40AE this winter, really tempted to do the same to the mirrors now! Also I know its the reflection of the light but if you saw that pic of the Turbo in a classified ad you would think the front end was painted in 3 different shops

I wonder what the guy will do with the 996.1? That works out to $65k in usd and now he's stuck. He can't drive it or it will become like every other 996 except it hasn't had its IMS bearing done. He should have bought a nice 996.2 GT3. He could drive/track it and still sell it for what he has in it when he's done. I mean seriously, if the 996.1 were available as a new model now, would you buy one for $65k? SMH

For $65K? Hell yeah LOL - even a standard no-options 911 Carrera in Australia is $237,245 driveaway. Thats with no options.

It looks great! My 5 cents... i love the stickers... and I dont like that kind of "center lock"... My I ask where did you purchase the stickers? Thanks!

POST 29Original post

https://carreradecals.com/ The faux centerlocks are very polarizing. If the car was anything other than a life-sized hotwheels, I would take it more seriously.
