Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Been searching here and elsewhere and haven't been able to find what is causing this. I have a 99 996 with the 4 spoke wheel. I was having the issue of the horn going off under braking, and then not working at all. I just replaced the airbag frame and still no horn. I checked the B3 fuse and noticed it was blown. Tried replacing with new fuses and they blow immediately. Is this the relay that is bad? Is it the horns themselves?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any thought on how to track down the short?

POST 4Original post

Blow immediately? As in as soon as they are plugged in? Check your wiring at the steering wheel. Using the theory "Last touched first checked". Check this DIY Helper: http://zipzapdiy.com/boxster-996-horn-replacement/ If they last until you press the horn ring. Try disconnecting the horns then pressing the horn ring if the fuse is still good horns are the suspect. If it still blows then probe for short/resistance between the horn harness connector(s) and ground. If not start working your way back to the relay (position 10) If fuse blows before you press the horn ring short could be in the relay or probably on the steering wheel side of the relay. POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes they are blowing as soon as they get plugged in. I will check the connectors on the steering wheel. As a part of the project I also replaced the turn signal stalk and the wheel itself (mine was a bit beat up). There are 2 connectors on the steering wheel. Which one goes to which position?
