Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run hours of the car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run hours of the car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If the over revs occurred a thousand miles ago and the car is running with no issues, then it is likely little to no damage occurred.

Also if the car has a tune the redline may have been set higher.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My friend is on the purchase of P car - just received info on above 1 thru 6
1 was 14815 /1200H
2 -778/1200
3- 356-1154
4- 199- 1114.5
5- 109- 1098
6 - 0 1201.6
This is off the Bosch ECU - I have looked in 996 Essentials companion and did not show much on this - and it looks like you have nothing- my durametic is probably the answer - the 39 k mileage car in question is in Chicago dealer - a Porsche tech will know what it is
I remember seeing discussion on this forum about what they mean. You can search. As I recall, the different levels correlated to the number of ignitions at certain rev levels. 1 and 2 were not significant, as I recall, as they were at or near red line. The higher numbers are more significant, but you can also tell how long ago they occurred. If the over revs occurred a thousand miles ago and the car is running with no issues, then it is likely little to no damage occurred.
It looks like some of the level 1 and 2 over revs were recent.

if you search, the 997 - 991 guys explain just how many seconds the car spends at over rev
Rev Range data is stored in the cars ECU (engine control unit). The ECU is able to record and store engine ignitions at or past the cars limiter. On a 6 cylinder engine there are 3 ignition pulses per engine revolution. Ignitions are recorded as a cumulative total throughout a cars life.
I'm a little nervous about looking at mine. My 99 was purchased new by Michelin Research and Development. They installed a full roll cage and Euro GT3 seats and used it as a tire tester for 42k miles. It was owned by a single guy in his 20s after that. It had 89k when I bought it. I have driven it for 3,000 miles with no major issues though. It still has the original M96-01 engine.
Correct, also Porsche consider an overrev sinister or in the danger zone when it occurred under 120 hours ago. Past 120 hours if you had an issue they say it would have shown up already.
Keep in mind the 'ignitions' - also known as over-revs - are classified based on the run of engines that correspond to the 996 / 997 models + account for the line (turbo vs. GT3 vs. N/A m96). With the point being that each model has its own tiered system for over-rev/ignition classification. For my car, an m96 C2 996, range 1 = rev limiter touched, while range 2 = ignitions that exceed the rev-limiter range (implying a forced over-rev downshift). For Mezger designs, ranges 1 & 2 aren't even over-revs from what I understand. And the other ranges aren't necessarily above the manufactured limit with the exception of the highest few ranges.
Based on that range you noted, it sounds like the car is either an m96 mezger (Turbo or GT3) or an m97/997 variant. Once you get the exact model type, scan a query "ignition range" or "DME range" in the correct forum. You should easily find a thread with the needed information. Off-hand it looks to me like a turbo/GT3 engine with a moderate - normal amount of over-revs, but the particulars depend on confirmation.
found this in the 997 forum (assuming this is a 997.1, the .2 is a 9A1 motor so possibly different).

note that this is for a different car but the logic could be helpful:
My $0.02: not the best or worst, not great that the range 5s, albeit brief, were recent. C grade from me. If it was a mezger unit I'd be less concerned.
Keep in mind that these numbers are also cumulative. The car could have had most of the over revs earlier in its career with the last 109 at 1098 hours.
Also if the car has a tune the redline may have been set higher. A tune doesnt make the mechanicals any stronger it just allows the engine to run to higher limits before retarding taking measures to limit RPM.
lol, you guys crack me up! I think I'm going to enjoy hanging out here. The pic I posted was a crop of a picture from the PO's for sale ad from a year ago. After a year of
my
ownership, I don't know what the numbers are. I guess I should go hook it up to the Durametric to see if I have any *****.
I went for a test drive recently - in a sports car - Dealer drove first - starts up - engine cold - 5 mins later he's thrashing the nuts of it ....
- i would not buy that car ..... cold engine cold oil etc.... takes it waaaaaay up the rev range....
