Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Everyone,
I have a '01 996 Coupe (MK1) and am replacing the old single-Din radio and box cupholders on top of center dash with a new Double-Din radio system. I've been looking for cupholder options since I'll be losing the originals and wanted to ask if I can add the slim sliding type cupholders located under the top air vents that some 996 models have (MK2 only?). Does anyone know if adding this is possible? And, if not, does anyone have viable cup holder solutions?
Thanks in advance,
Matt
You will probably need the top vent to go with the mk2 cup holder. The top vent is slimmer to accommodate the cup holder. Personally I rarely use it as it block the double din radio and you can't put a cup that's too tall. taking a corner too fast and it falls out or splashes...
I bought the cup holder that sits on the floor next to the center council and that works much better.
Jim010, I actually have one of those in my car, but I'm 6'7" and find that it's hard to be comfortable in the car with coffee in that location (it's usually where my elbow goes)
6'7? How do you fit in the car, lol?
Unfortunately, then to only nice looking option would be the gen 2 cupholder, but I have been looking myself and people want $150 just for the holders. Then add in the new trim and $250 is alot just for cupholders ...
You'd be surprised but it's more comfortable than you think. I did have to go tiptronic though, as my legs are just too long to manage the stick shift without hitting my knees on everything. I use my 996 as a daily driver and couldn't put up with the hassle of a stick while driving in the city, hurt my back too much. I think the cupholder that connects to the center console and sits on the passenger side floor is best option at this point.
I'm 6'2, but I am usually in the passenger seat.
The console stick on ones are awful, though. Keep your eye out for the gen 2 ones, I say.
What will you do with the insert cupholders from Suncoast?
Jim010 offered first on the Suncoast insert so I'll let him decide if he wants it. It's listed at $40 new and I've had mine for about 6 months and never used it. Jim010, please DM me and we can go from there. Rogazilla, I will wait on his resposne and let you know what transpires.
+1 on this one. I have two in my car.
You should consider a Navo Xtend55 to get more room behind your steering wheel. I like mine a lot. Gert at Carnewal had them.
