Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I paid for a PPI in CO (I'm in SOCAL) and the classic check the oil filter didnt work.

The car is as advertised - very clean and seems to run strong (but what do i know?) Scheduled to take it for a PPI at Chris German on Thursday.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Been a reader here for a while, seriously looking for my first P-car now.
Any PNW Rennlisters - familiar with this car or have any general input?

It is also on eBay and listed on the dealer site.
Thanks in advance for the comments...
Tail pipes are very droopy...needs new motor mounts. Where are the back seats? Overall looks pretty good. I would find out about recent service. Mileage?
92K, seats are included. I would do a PPI for sure, a little concerned this was just someones track toy...
here are the links to eBay and dealer - more pics and info

that was my first thought about the tail pipes. Since it is a one owner vehicle, the key will be the service records and how well the owner kept up with the maintenance. This will let you know how much or how little to expect to pay for preventive maintenance in the near future. And since its at a dealer, there's a lot of room to negotiate on the price. What's with the yellow headlights?
Yeah, not a big fan of the yellow headlight film - that would be the first thing to go...
Going to drive over the dealer lot this afternoon and check this one out.
I saw this as well and was thinking of having a look...not because I needed a car but it looked like a decent buy. Good catch on the droopy tailpipes. It may be a decent buy with reasonable mileage. Good Luck. Have Charles Dundon do a PPI. He will do a great job for you. I trust him more than anyone.

PM me for important info
Chris did a PPI for my 996 6 years ago....good choice especially for convenience. Though these days, I am a huge Charles Dundon fan cause he is thorough and finds stuff no one else does.
I had James at Gerber do mine not long ago, also good choice in Interbay. Keep us posted, if it doesn't work out, keep looking, lots of them out there! Has the Fabspeed intake muffler delete thing there....makes me wonder what else was messed with. Doesn't look like a track car imho...
I like the GT3 center console delete. The price is good for the mileage and motor mount are easy if that's all it needs. I had my PPI done at Chris' German in Redmond.
Well...the PPI was money well spent. Sadly, this 996 is hiding some internal engine demons. Took Chris' German advice and passed - will continue the search for my first P-car.
They found green o-ring and metal shavings in oil filter housing. It actually looked like they had panned for gold in the oil - tiny nuggets of silver, gold and green. Not Good!
Thanks for all the input, advice and comments.
Pic doesn't do justice to how much crap was in the oil.
You are lucky.
I paid for a PPI in CO (I'm in SOCAL) and the classic check the oil filter didnt work. Shop said oil was new and filter looked like it must have been install a day before the PPI. Many professional sellers will do this the shop said. Fresh oil and filter right before PPI.
They found a host of other non disclosed items so I passed.
Good news is there are lots of nice 996 for sale.
Good hunting.
I assume you are on a budget - I have no affiliation but here's a local 2001 996 in seal grey that looked promising and might be worth while checking out - has a branded title but not a bad car for entry level if it passes a PPI and repairs/paintwork were done well - I'm sure you could grind this guy down to $13K
