Suggestion

It's about useless as it's set off by the radar cruise control on many modern cars.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As the title says, I'm trying to identify a radar detector that was installed by the previous owner, the control **** has 2 settings, one shown in amber and the other in green. I would like to know which setting does what, any help would be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Just a suggestion...you might try your local custom car stereo installation shop who typically do radar detectors in addition to custom audio work. I would think they could easily identify the type/brand at minimal or no cost to you.

POST 3Original post

I'm by no means an expert on this but with such a simple control layout and interface it makes me wonder if it is a laser jammer and not a radar detector? Radar detectors usually have more interface options like mute, mode, etc. installed somewhere like the ashtray or elsewhere on the dash. They also usually have some sort of readout so that you can see radar type and intensity. Here's a pic for reference - though this is just for one model and there are lots of variations out there... Yours just seems to be an off/on switch with an active/inactive indicator which seems to be more like a laser jammer - which lots of guys don't leave on - just long enough to slow down and then shut off. If cops see you're jammed for more than a few seconds they'll usually pull you over regardless. Again, just a theory, and by no means an expert opinion.

POST 4Original post

you should be able to find the control and see the name

POST 6Original post

Looks like a K40 radar detector. I'm not sure what vintage though.

POST 7Original post

It's definitely a K40. I have one too. It's about useless as it's set off by the radar cruise control on many modern cars. I wonder if there's an upgrade to fix that little problem. One of the red LED's is for the front radar warning and one for the back. When you turn it on it does the power up blinks & sound effects. The first LED to blink is the front warning, then the second is for the rear warning.

that's exactly what it does, and same issue, it's seems to randomly go on, with no popo in sight. Would also like to find out if it can be upgraded, thanks for the help fellas.

Drive by any store with automatic front doors (CVS, Walgreens, etc.) and watch it light up - so annoying.
