Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Can you lower the engine enough doing it this way to also replace coolant tank?
Leading evidence: 'Replace coolant tank' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace coolant tank' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There are many helpful post on replacing water pump and t stat on here (I have a 2004 c2).

Since you have to support the engine to remove the bracket, I obviously can only set the lift in one position and then jack/support the engine.

Although as I'm typing it seems likely I should just partially lift the car and use my creeper and floor jack to support the engine!

I don't have any kind of stand that would help with that unless someone has some creative support structure using a floor jack.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There are many helpful post on replacing water pump and t stat on here (I have a 2004 c2). My question is a little more specific to access. I have a 2 post lift. Since you have to support the engine to remove the bracket, I obviously can only set the lift in one position and then jack/support the engine. Can you access everything from under the car to replace the water pump and t stat if the car is lifted all the way up (so I don't have to work from a creeper) or is it better to only partially lift the car so you can access from both top and bottom of the car?
Secondary problem with lifting all the way would be finding a suitable jack support for the engine. I don't have any kind of stand that would help with that unless someone has some creative support structure using a floor jack. Although as I'm typing it seems likely I should just partially lift the car and use my creeper and floor jack to support the engine!
You will need to work from both the top and bottom of the engine bay. I found it easiest to have the car on low jack stands, support the engine with a floor jack, and work from both the bottom and top to remove the engine support bracket to gain access to the water pump and bolts, and underneath the car to access the thermostat housing. There is a black metal coolant pipe that runs along side the engine block next to the thermostat housing. Undoing the two bolts that hold that pipe against the block makes access to the thermostat housing way easier to remove.
This method doesn't lower the engine. It just unloads the weight of it so you can move a bracket out of the way to get the water pump out. The bracket is moved rear-ward.
That's the DIY that I used. It's very good. Just ignore the part where he puts sealant on the gasket. Instead use the Porsche OEM metal gasket and NO sealant.
And get a set of hooks from Harbor Freight to help remove the hoses. They're very cheap and invaluable if your hoses are original and have never been removed.
