That said, I installed a 997 oil cooler on my 996.2 and it does indeed fit.

Suggestion
So as an interim step, i will be replacing my 996 3.6 oil cooler with a 997 3.8 oil cooler which is 20% bigger, until I am ready to spend the money on a center exhaust mod to be able to run LNs oil cooling kit.

Nice solution that should help tremendously for dedicated track cars and for guys that can run exhaust modifications around town.

Suggestion
It fits in the muffler area so you gotta run a GT3 center exhaust or just straight pipes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have attached the pinout for DME 7.8
Anyways I will be making an oil temp gauge during the weekend. Quick question which PIN is switched 12V on DME 7.8 ? I have been reading and reading and I don't get it!!
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...emp-guage.html
Why would u pull 12v or ground from the dme. Thats just a bad idea. Get it from a fuse box or an existing harness point like the unused cell phone plug. U should only be splicing into the signal wire at the dme.
GC as always to the rescue, thanks! I reached out to coopduc with a request, I will make something similar potentially as well with an arduino. In addition, I would like to have a speaker as honestly what I want to know for next weekend is when to cool down. Speaking of which any news on the oil cooler from LN ?
LN released the kit last fall. It fits in the muffler area so you gotta run a GT3 center exhaust or just straight pipes. Nice solution that should help tremendously for dedicated track cars and for guys that can run exhaust modifications around town. I would certainly love to use it but not yet prepared to spend the money on buying and moding a center exhaust at this time. Unfortunatelly, i need a muffler system in my part of town. So as an interim step, i will be replacing my 996 3.6 oil cooler with a 997 3.8 oil cooler which is 20% bigger, until I am ready to spend the money on a center exhaust mod to be able to run LNs oil cooling kit.
But will be adding
@Coopduc
oil temp gauge next week as well as going thru my cooling system in prep for the first track event of the season at the end of month. I want to see the oil temp ranges w/ the 996 oem oil cooler first on the track and then add the 997 3.8 oil cooler for the 2nd event to see if there are any improvements. It will be good to finally track the oil temp numbers. Coop made a good product.
Hope things are good on your side of the world.
Yep. Guys on the forum have been running it with success. Don't know how much more cooling it provides, but at 20% larger you would think there would be a benefit. I'll know more with running
@Coopduc
oil temperature gauge.
IMO it's worth noting that the 996/997 oil "cooler" is really more of a heat exchanger, between the oil and the coolant. If the coolant temp is high, it's not going to do much to cool the oil.
